Absolutely breathtaking majorities by the Democrats during the FDR years.

It's amazing that the last time (except present day) the GOP held a majority in both houses was during IKe's term from '53-'55. And even while Republican's held the Senate for several years during the Reagan years, it's my understanding that since all spending originates in the House, the GOP was rather impotent. Is this true, since it was before my enlightenment period.

yes. FDR was quite a political leader, but I think we have his match now.

Sadly, I don't see how we can expand our majority to the size it was in the 71st Congress. I see we have a ultimate top of 260, but of course, with Howard Dean, anything is possible.
However, it's tough with New England and California.

Thanks for the heads up!

I just can't believe how many times the democrats had super-majorites. Looking at the 75th Congress...or any of the FDR years, I can't imagine what it would've been like to be a Republican during that time. I think this pretty much explains why we are, where we are...and why Republican's suffer from post-traumatic minority syndrome.
