Jeb Bush Detractors can leave their apologies here.
Posted on 10/21/2003 2:47:00 PM PDT by Pukin Dog
If the moderators will allow this thread, I would like to hear from those with courage enough to admit their mistakes in attacking Governor Jeb Bush, "suggesting that blood would be on his hands", calling him a murderer and worse with no evidence to back up their assaults.
While today is a great day, I would like to know how many people are willing to stand up and admit their wrongs?
Some may think it unnecessary, but I think a pound of flesh is in order, in a single place were we can all see and read about it. Please remove if this is out of bounds, but in all the congradulatory threads, I dont see too many folks willing to suck it up.

This whole fracas gave me an insight into some of my fellow Americans.
Some folks don't want a free republic.

They said they'd vote against George W. Bush to get back at Jeb for not storming the hospice with state troopers.

I don't think I got into the blood and murderer stuff (against Jeb).
"Murder in the Making - in The Sunshine State" - by Golden Gate
I consider that to be against all the people and government officials and media who stalled around and let the feeding tube be removed, and then didn't act.
This sort of thing can / (is possibly) happen(ing) ...? across this country. So, I don't know if Florida stands alone. But they are the focus this time.
I will say "Thank You, Gov. Jeb Bush!"
I also want to continue to say,
"W-a-y too s-l-o-w; but I hope that Terri Lives!"

I think I was critical of Gov Bush somewhere along the line out of frustration because it was taking so long. I also had some harsh words for Republicans who seem to always be pissing me off. So if I need to apologize, I will. Governor Bush came through for Terri and the Florida Legislature did, too. I just hope to God it's not too late. How's that?

I am not. I ignored all of these Terri threads until I saw their hysterical threats against Jeb (voting against W. would be their way of punishing Jeb).

I never attacked Jeb...not even once. But I'll admit I didn't think he'd intervene. I'm happy he did.

So did I. I did not post on a single Terri thread, until I started seeing what some were saying about Jeb Bush. It was very much an eye opener, and I hope nothing like it happens again.

Thanks for standing up for Jeb against attacks from people that advocate he should have broken the law. Jeb took an oath to uphold the laws of Florida -- good and bad and he took the right course IMO!

There is more pride, respect and honor in my handle than you could ever know. I would do my homework before spouting off to a present, former or future Pukin Dog.Maybe you should change your handle to "Dangerboy" or "Fighting Pi" from the old Approach "Brown Shoes in Action Comix" series.

I've avoided the Terri threads because I had a feeling I might get into a flame war. I also didn't have all the facts in the case. Can someone point me to a summary of the entire issue, or summarize it as a reply to this post? My impression (which is probably wrong) is that the legal guardian of Terri is being forced to continue caring for her even though destitute. I'm probably wrong, but for some reason that's my impression. I'd rather know the facts of the case before I open my big mouth.

An apology may be a tad premature. This bill allows the Governor to issue a one-time, 15-day stay in these cases. Then what? We've won a battle, not the war. I have not previously commented publicly about Terri but have forcefully expressed to Governor Bush via email my belief that he requires no special or extra grant of authority to ensure that Florida law is faithfully executed. Indeed, doing so in this case positively requires him to move against a rogue judge hell-bent on perverting Florida law for unknown ends. Nothing that occurred today changes that, and nothing the Governor has yet said or done suggests he has the intestinal fortitude to uphold the law against a black-robed tyrant. When Jeb proves me wrong, I will be the first to apologize. Profusely. But the jury is still out.

Being a leader means making the hard choices and doing what is unpopular yourself when everyone else (including the Law) demands you lay off. That is the single most liberal statement I've seen here in days. What you just said is that being a leader (and this isn't Cuba, we don't have leaders, we have representative officials whom we elect, explore the differences at your leisure) puts you above the law. How very Clintonesque of you. How very wrong of you. Being an elected official, means you uphold the law, all the laws, not just the laws you happen to find convienant.

it's the legaslatures job to make the laws, not the Govenors. The Govenor may make suggestions and has the right to vetoe a bill before it becomes law, but he doesn't create the bill that becomes law.
He had no legal authority to intervene until the legaslature gave him the authority.
I haven't read the details of the new law yet and I don't know if he has been given direct authority to intervene or if the intervention will be done by other than the governor.
In either case, the law wouldn't have been made without his encouragement and urging of the legaslature to make it.
