Jeb Bush Detractors can leave their apologies here.
Posted on 10/21/2003 2:47:00 PM PDT by Pukin Dog
If the moderators will allow this thread, I would like to hear from those with courage enough to admit their mistakes in attacking Governor Jeb Bush, "suggesting that blood would be on his hands", calling him a murderer and worse with no evidence to back up their assaults.
While today is a great day, I would like to know how many people are willing to stand up and admit their wrongs?
Some may think it unnecessary, but I think a pound of flesh is in order, in a single place were we can all see and read about it. Please remove if this is out of bounds, but in all the congradulatory threads, I dont see too many folks willing to suck it up.

Unless I am mistaken, Bush did act on the girl's behalf, only to be slapped down by the Judge. I dont believe he responded to public pressure, because it was coming from both sides. I believe that when Bush said there was nothing he could do, he was telling the truth. When he was given a method for taking action, he did. What that tells me, is that Bush follows the law. What more can you ask from a Conservative?

You're delusional, my friend. I didn't call anybody any names, except those who were trashing Jeb Bush unmercifully.
I applaud your efforts, but going after Jeb Bush was stupid, as he was doing all he could here. Moving a legislature takes time.
It might be beneficial for you to can the "thumb up the ass" stuff, as it demeans you.
Jeb did what he had to do, in spite of the Jello, and the impeachment petitions, and the threats to his political career and, in one case, his physical safety.
In the future, work to bring things to the attention of politicians, but terrorizing people is for children, not people you want to help you.

I never attacked him but I did doubt he had the ability to do something for the last several days ( up until last night). My sincere apologies, Jeb. You have my lifelong loyalty now.

Qwinn I was not refering to you. I don't remember seeing any of your posts. I am sorry if you were called names. I do not advocate that. I agree with some people who ahd your point of view. My experience was the opposite of yours, but I was called names by the same people over and over again. I for one thank you for you work.
I will not apologize for losing faith in Jeb ,however, and I am not a liberal. I do not blindly support someone just because they have a (R) after their name in a life and death case, even if they are Jeb Bush. I had heart that he would do something if he could , IMO he needed a bit of political pressure to see that it was really important to us. I do not think there is anything wrong with that. Even though he is (R), and I supported him BIG TIME in the past, I put the pressure where I thought it needed to go.

Bill O'Reilly made a very important connection this evening between the U.S.Congress passed ban on Partial Birth abortion and the Florida Legislative powers passed to the Governor to stay the starvation/dehydration death of Terri Schiavo. Perhaps we are seeing a paradigm shift from unchecked judicial activism to elected legislators writing the laws which will define our scoiety's taboo structures. I would love to believe Jeb Bush had this important distinction in mind when he called for an already scheduled legislative special session to additionally address the plight of Terri Schiavo. I've not decided yet.

Wow. Another great post. I appreciate that, Cathryn.
And since Leatherneck never did get around to answering it, I'll ask him again:
"Since you are setting up precedent here, will you be as obliging when a liberal governor acts on his own moral convictions and calls out the troops, say, against a church or something similar? (Does Waco ring a bell?)"

I saw that and I agree.
The tide will turn, if we can stay the course, and not be distracted by our own impatience. It took Liberals 50 years to screw up this country. I'll be long dead before it gets to where it needs to be.

"I do not blindly support someone just because they have a (R) after their name in a life and death case, even if they are Jeb Bush."
Tell me about it. I live in New Jersey. I had Christie Whitman (R) for a governor. VETOED a ban on partial birth abortions, anti-police, you name it. I have to shower every time I think about the fact that I voted for her her first election.
There are many (R)'s I find downright sickening. But when a politician is brave enough in our politically correct society to state a pro-life position openly, and when they openly stated on an almost daily basis that they oppose what was being done to Terri, and filed an Amicus Curae brief on her behalf, as well as several other legal steps that were simply rejected by the Court, I give them the benefit of the doubt.
When you get an (R) like Whitman as your governor for a while, you might get a more accurate sense of distinguishing enemies from friends.

Well thank you for your well-reasoned posts. :)
Passion is great--like I said, Terri would be far worse off without the passion of freepers..
but... sometimes passion isn't enough. And I have to say I sided with the "Jeb Bush can't do any thing" argument, for a variety of reasons that I've stated before.
Plus, I hate, as someone once posted, "circular firing lines."
At some point I did get the impression that "outsiders" saw how torn up people were here and decided to use this issue as an opportunity to divide Republicans.

He's stealing my stuff from FR MArvin. :-}
But that's OK as long as the US COngress gets the message. If SCOTUS strikes this ban and affirms the Ninth Circuit's ban on the Pledge, we'll find out.
To: floriduh voter
WHAT??? Please explain further.

So you are saying you called no one names, except the people you were calling names. And you want to repramand me , after burning up cyber space with your crassness for the last week.
Let me get this right, You want to give me lessons on effective communication as spit and sputter all the nastiness throw around.
You want to label what I did as terrorism, while you insult and threaten everyone who disagrees with you ,and refuses to bow down and call you the "king of the world".
Well, thanks for the lesson Sinkspur, I think I put it where it belongs... in the "circular file".
