OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel is strongly criticizing Congress, saying it gave President Bush too much latitude in conducting foreign policy following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Hagel, of Nebraska, voiced his disapproval Monday in a speech at the Gallup Organization World Conference in Omaha.
``When the security of this nation is threatened, Congress and the American people give the president great latitude,'' he said. ``We probably have given this president more flexibility, more latitude, more range, unquestioned, than any president since Franklin Roosevelt -- probably too much. The Congress, in my opinion, really abrogated much of its responsibility.''
Hagel, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, voted last year to give the president the authority to attack Iraq but has frequently criticized Bush's execution of the war. He has been especially critical of the lack of allies and U.N. support.
Most people in other countries are too young to remember the good done by the United States in World War II and the Korean War, he said.
``The great reservoir of pro-American good will that has existed in the world since World War II . . . that reservoir is now down very low.''

I want to congratulate Nebraska from the bottom of my heart for sending this RINO to the Senate.
Why is it everyone picks on Arlen Specter, but no one ever goes after this idiot?

Something has happened to Chuck Hagel in the last year.
I happen to think he wants some limelight and "me-tooing" Bush doesn't get him any attention.

Yes, what is Hagel's problem anyway?

I'm frankly tired of his lecturing the Administration. Several of his comments have been totally out of line.
Ben Nelson is more cooperative.
To: Az Joe
It's between his ears.
To: MJY1288
Yeah, well, we should have primaried him last year.

Senator ItsOurTimeNow (R-FR) says Hagel should shut the h#ll up.

You are so right. Hagel has been an asshole from day one of the Bush administration. Hell, Zell Miller is more a Republican than 'ole Haggis.

Thanks.

I don't know. Hagel reminds me of Wile E. Coyote? Can we have a picture of him please?

"I want to congratulate Nebraska from the bottom of my heart for sending this RINO to the Senate."
You violate Reagan's 11th Commandment, on what basis?
He gives reasons for his position, which is more than you do.

When ever I hear an elected official whining about how we need to be "liked" around the world, the first thing that comes to mind is "You chicken Shi'ite MoFo, we need to be feared by our enemies and respected by our allies, NOT liked. That's a role for France, NOT the United States"

This slime, who adheres to his seat in the Senate by viscosity, has oozed in front of cameras several times to remark:
1. How irreponsible the Bush Administration is in foreign policy. Why?
2. Because none of them have worn a uniform.
3. Has criticized Congress for giving this President way too much responsibility.
I can't see a light of difference between those comments and those made by the jr. Senator from MA.
I mean, I'd rather Arlen Specter. At least he takes the President's side on foreign policy. The least a Republican can do is take the President's side on foreign policy.
To: MJY1288
Yes. What's wrong with other nations fearing the US?
Hey, look at Iran.
To: republicanwizard
Our enemies stand up and cheer everytime some idiot like Chuck Hagel steps up and does their bidding for them, with this horse hockey about how we are no longer liked. I wish I could get a chance to slap that silly punk from Nebraska, HE NEEDS IT BADLY

Yes. What's wrong with other nations fearing the US?I once saw the following:
"When nothing else works, war works wonders. Just look at Japan...well-behaved since 1945."
