I always thought that was a good tune. The first time I heard it with the bass turned all the way up I realized it's a classic -- one of the best bass lines I've heard in a rock 'n roll tune!

Little Willy, Willy won't go home...

JESUS NO!!!

When my niece was four & in the hospital for a month she played this record over and over and over AND OVER on a scratchy battery-operated 45 player.

Along with this one:

The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia
Vicki Lawrence
Words and Music by her husband, Bobby Russell

(peak Billboard position # 1 in 1973)

He was on his way home from Candletop
Been two weeks gone and he thought he'd stop
At William's and have him a drink 'fore he went home to her
Andy Wolloe said "Hello"
And he said "Hi, what's doin', Wo?"
"Seth, sit down, I got some bad news, it's gonna hurt"
He said "I'm your best friend and you know that's right"
"But your young bride ain't home tonight"
"Since you been gone she's been seein' that Amos boy, Seth "
Well, he got mad 'n' he saw red and Andy said "Boy, don'tcha lose your head"
" 'cause to tell ya the truth, I been with her myself"

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
'cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands

Well, Andy got scared and left the bar
Walkin' on home 'cause he didn't live far
See, Andy didn't have many friends and he'd just lost him one
Brother thought his wife musta left town
So he went home and finally found
The only thing Papa had left him, that was a gun

And he went off to Andy's house
A'skippin' through the backwoods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back-porch door
And he saw Andy lyin' on the floor
In a puddle of blood and he started to shake

Well, the Georgia Patrol was a'makin' their rounds
So he fired a shot just to flag 'em down
And a big-bellied sheriff got his gun and said "why'dya do it?"
And the judge said "Guilty" in a make-believe trial
And slapped the sheriff on the back with a smile
Said' supper's waitin' at home and I gotta get to it"

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
'cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands

Well, they hung my brother before I could say
The tracks he saw while on his way
To Andy's house and back that night were mine
And his cheatin' wife had never left town
And that's one body that'll never be found
See, little sister don't miss when she aims her gun

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia, oh-oh-aah
That's the night that they hung an innocent man, ah-huh-unh
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer

FADE
'cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands

I frequently get the various songs from Star Trek the original series, like the song that played when Kirk and Spock were fighting to the death, or the song that always played when Spock was alone in his room contemplating something deep.

Was a hot afternoon
The last day of June
and the sun was a demon
The clouds were afraid
110 in the shade
and the pavement was steamin'

I told Billy Ray
in his red Chevrolet
needed time for some thinkin'
I was just walkin by
when I looked in her eye
And I swore it was winkin

She was ninety-one, I was seventeen
(or something like that)
I knew nothin' bout love, she knew everything
But I sat down beside her on the front porch swing
And wondered if she'd been tested for HIV.

I'm just a bird in the sky...

You mean I'm not the only one? I once spent 24 hours humming this song under my breath. It was torture.

I recalled there was some story about that song and the libs, but couldn't put my finger on it. And that song does irritate.

I was so miserable before I clicked on this thread. Wouldn't have believed I could laugh today.

Sorry you are having a bad day. Since reading only the first page, my mind keeps racing through songs. They've kinda become a medley.

I'm leavin' on a jet plane; don't know when I'll be back again...

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, and headed for the train; feelin' nearly faded as my jeans...

By the time I get to Phoenix, she'll be risin'...

All the leaves are brown - hum, hum, hum - and the sky is grey...

Geeze -- this is just so much fun, I don't know how to turn it off!!

My kids have one they love -

"Joy to the world, Barney's dead
We bar-b-cued his head!
Don't worry 'bout the bo-o-dy
We flushed it down the po-o-tty
Round and round it goes
Round and round it goes
Ro-oun and ro-ound and round it goes......"

You and me are going fishing in the dark, lying on our backs and counting the stars where the cool grass grows, down by the river in the full moonlight, we'll be falling in love in the middle of the night, just moving slow, staying the whole night through, feels so good to be with you

Actually, it was Henry Gross. But there is a Beach Boy connection. "Shannon" was Carl Wilson's golden Retriever that got hit by a car.

I believe Shannon was Brian Wilson's dog -- He was walking the dog on the beach one day, and it just up and ran off into the surf, never to be seen again.
