Barbara Bush Calls Democrat Line-Up a 'Sorry Group'
Mon October 20, 2003 10:15 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former first lady Barbara Bush and mother of President Bush described Democrats trying to unseat her son in the White House as a "sorry group" of politicians.

"So far, they are a pretty sorry group if you want to know my opinion," said Mrs. Bush in an interview aired on Monday by NBC's "Today" show, when asked about the Democratic line-up for the 2004 presidential election.

"This is the world according to Barbara Bush, not George, not George H.W., not anybody" she added.

Her husband also had some harsh words for the Democratic contenders whom he accused of using "vicious rhetoric."

"The one who makes the most outrageous charges against the president gets his 20 seconds on the evening news. Hey I did not ride in here on a watermelon cart. I know how it works," said the former president.

Fiercely proud of their son's achievements, former President Bush said his wife treated the president like any other member of the family, recently telling him after a run to get his feet off the table in their bedroom.

However, Mrs. Bush said the current president frequently declined to do what she said. "He still doesn't take my advice, that dirty dog."

Did they have any video of Katie Couric or Matt Lauer blowing a gasket?

If you can't love Barbara Bush, who can you love. She is one great gal.

It was Jamie Gangell's (sp) report this morning, and I thought it was very good. Flattering and informative (mentioned the tons of money the family has raised for charity, for instance). Didn't stick around for Lauer's and Couric's reaction, though.

Okay. Thanks for the details. I'm actually disappointed, though, that she wasn't in studio with the two liberal shills. :-) Barbara probably didn't want to get any of their venom on her outfit.

None can can even come near enough to even measure up to Jimmy Carter. Where's the beef? The Democratic Party doesn't have the intrinsic motivating power to produce any great leadership. Its own philosophy is not attractive to quality kind of people.

Barbara Bush is the Mother of All First Ladies. She is the second woman in history to be both mother and wife of a US president. She is a very accomplished woman. One would think she would be a role model for the Womans Movement.

You gotta reserve a special place in your heart for a woman that can tell the President of the United States to get his stinky feet off her night stand!

She is not only right, but politically savy and protective as a mother and wife too. What a great woman.

Yesterday on Fox with Tony Snow, both Rich Galen and Susan Estrich characterized Hillary as "unelectable."
