[history]
President Bush has talked a lot about tort reform, but so far Congress has delivered precious little legislation for him to sign. That's mostly due to the opposition of Senate Democrats, who are wary of upsetting their plaintiffs' bar financiers. So it's certainly news that Minority Leader Tom Daschle recently decided to support the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, a bill that will limit liability for gun manufacturers.

Nothing permanent about this. The rats are only backing down for now to await another battle, another day. We must continue to watch them, because we know one thing about liberals that we can take to the bank: They lie. In fact, they'd rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth.
I may sound cynical, but cynicism is essential when dealing with liberals.

It's the NRA that the anti's are afraid of.
It's the NRA that cost Gore the election.
It's the NRA that is the most effective gun organization.

They are going for the white male vote now. I guess "for the children" is no longer operative.

I wish the RATs were still pushing gun control. It is such an effective club to use on them.

Howard Dean, the liberal Democratic Presidential front-runner, is now actively campaigning against gun control. Actually he's running away from the issue as much as possible. Gun control is not contemplated in Vermont, which allows him to claim to be pro-gun. He thinks it's perfectly fine for other states, the more the merrier.

With any luck at all, their voting records will continue to haunt them. IF the Republicans are able to constantly highlight these voting records, it could be a very effective weapon. Of course Daschle has managed to get re-elected despite the fact that he's antigun in a very progun state. At the very least they will appear to waffle on the issue and it could cost them votes from their liberal base. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. Awwwwww too bad!

It's the NRA that the anti's are afraid of. It's the NRA that cost Gore the election.
Not in Gore's home state, his home county, nor his home precinct. And had he won Tennessee's electoral votes, he would not have needed those in Florida. He'd have won.
It's the NRA that is the most effective gun organization.
I hope not, now that one of their leading attorneys has stated in court that handgun registration is among their goals. But I'll agree that they're very efficient at seeing the membership bombarded with mail-order insurance pitches.
When the present leadership is removed and they become a pro-gun ownership organization again, I'll reconsider my view of them. But not so long as the draft-dodger remains as the president.
It's time for NRA reforms again. And if they do not come from within the NRA, it's time for the alternative Second Amendment civil rights groups to be further promoted and developed.
Why have all our eggs in one basket?

Gun control in Texas is a simple matter of holding your elbow straight......

You're reaching if you're claiming the goal of the NRA is registration. That's only a attorney's tactic. It was explained on this forum about a half dozen times.
If someone is so lazy as to complain they have to get their fat ass off the couch to throw away an envelope once in a while, I don't want them watching my back or a member of my association.

"You're reaching if you're claiming the goal of the NRA is registration."I don't think I'd ever claim the NRA was pro-registration; I am and will continue to be an NRA member; it's absolutely certain that the NRA and specifically Charlton Heston were responsible for Bush carrying Tennessee in '00.
But it does annoy me that (a) they don't very agressively attack anti-gun laws on any but procedural, technical grounds, and (b) the NRA is irrationally critical of anyone who has the nerve to fight an un-Constitutional law without their "blessing."
Some change within the NRA is necessary, but the current structure is such that I don't see how that can be accomplished.

If you don't have the votes, there's no sense in wasting money on lobbying anti-gun politicians.
If you don't have a reasonable fair-minded court, there's no sense in wasting money in taking cases to court.
we can't bring about change until we get rid of the anti-gun politicians and judges.
