Note to FR: I am posting here an email conversation I had today with Gov Bush about Terri, and yes, he knows I am posting it here on FR.
In my reply #1, located below this post of Gov Bush’s email, I have posted a message from me to Terri’s husband. And, no, I did not discuss with anyone my idea here to write to Terri’s husband. No one suggested it to me. Nor did I discuss it with anyone at all.
In my next reply, reply #2 below, I hope to post a message to my friends here on FR. And, while I would like to respond to each reply that may be posted on this thread, I can not. Due to a pressing personal matter, I will not be able to respond tonight.
However, my thoughts and prayers and hopes remain with each person involved in this matter.

I cannot offer much hope. I am sickened by this situtation and pray for her family. We have looked at every angle, every legal possibility and will continue to do so. It is clear that we need to make living wills the norm for families in our state. Too few people use them.

Is there a way you can utilize Family Law as it pertains to abandonment of a spouse -- on the grounds of lack of sexual contact -- so that the path can be cleared for him to be legally removed by the state or her family as a husband?

Unfortunately, I cannot issue an executive order when there is a court order upheld at every level in the judiciary. Mr. Shiavo is the legal guardian and I can't override that fact. I wish I could but I have no legal authority to do so.

We looked and looked for that at Klamath. In fact, many expected it.
It didn't happen until it was clear that the people were so committed and willing to risk everything...jail...an ultimate physical fight...that the politicians took action. And then claimed most of the credit.
Do not get me wrong, I am thankful to God that BUsh was in the White House because he did turn it around...the other admin would have forced it to a fight. but I am under no allusions as to why it got turned around. Because of the bravery and courage of a few God-fearing farmers, willing to risk all...and because God in Heaven smiled upon their commitment and their faith.
It will take that same type of commitment here for Terri...either from a brave politician (like Jeb) who goes out on a limb to do what is right, or from the people who want to save her.
What is happening is umitigated evil. And it is about to kill an innocent woman. When those things happen, principled leaders do not sit around and hide behind political expediency...they act.

Well said, Jeff! When Reagan decided to go to Bitburg, his advisors were aghast. Nancy was furious. But he knew there comes a time when you have to show leadership by answering to a higher principle than what's written on your job description- in the case of Bitburg, the principles of healing and forgiveness and redemption. Now Jeb Bush has his own Bitburg to deal with- because if he intervenes, there's no doubt there'll be a storm of protest from all the usual suspects. Why can't our leaders have the faith to be confident that if you just do what's right things always turn out well, in the end?
I do not know the hearts of the people involved in this matter. I cannot assume that a judge would be so craven as to order the murder of an innocent woman. I do know that God can change the hearts of men.

Then, yes, I would want the Governor, your parents , someone to intervene to save your kids.
Jeff and Summer-what I have never understood is that Michael has seemed to change his mind over time...and that is great cause for alarm as to the truth of his statement that Terri would not want to live under present circumstances.
Point being-Michael, right before winning a case for funding to help Terri (pay for costs of THERAPY, etc) said he wanted to become a nurse to CARE for Terri better and to help defray medical costs of therapy and care.
Does this not translate to Michael demonstrating that Terri, in her quote so called 'vegatative state' (and the videos make that one a hard swallow), was deserving of LIVING?
Was Michael at that time going against his own words now and not honoring Terri's so called wish to die if incapacitated?
And now, this man who no longer loves this woman but is recognized as her legal guardian (how can you love a woman who is your wife and build a family with another?) can change his mind and because it is convenient for him to have her life stopped, has the power to have her murdered?
This is a true case of our system of laws breaking down, of common sense and more important, common decency being abandoned for some code that doesn't even require a written signature by the person about to die.
Would that Judge Greer's dtr, if he has one, be put into the same situation.
What 'violate the law'? At this point, we're asking Mr. Bush to exhaust all possibilities including his personal intervention, as a Christian rather than a governor, if necessary.
I'm wondering why you can't exercise the same concern for this poor defenceless woman, that you have for the myriad pitbull victims you've posted about.
This is where I *can* fault Jeb.
Praying for Terri- and for Michael, too.
