10/18/03 -- Jeb's Emails to FR poster, summer, today, re: Terri. (And, a Message to Michael Shiavo)
10/18/03 | summer's emails with Gov Bush

Posted on 10/18/2003 5:15:50 PM PDT by summer

Note to FR: I am posting here an email conversation I had today with Gov Bush about Terri, and yes, he knows I am posting it here on FR.

In my reply #1, located below this post of Gov Bush’s email, I have posted a message from me to Terri’s husband. And, no, I did not discuss with anyone my idea here to write to Terri’s husband. No one suggested it to me. Nor did I discuss it with anyone at all.

In my next reply, reply #2 below, I hope to post a message to my friends here on FR. And, while I would like to respond to each reply that may be posted on this thread, I can not. Due to a pressing personal matter, I will not be able to respond tonight.

However, my thoughts and prayers and hopes remain with each person involved in this matter.

God bless.

Gov Bush,

Thank you, and I have no doubt you would move Heaven and Earth for her if you could.

Sincerely, [summer]

I cannot offer much hope. I am sickened by this situtation and pray for her family. We have looked at every angle, every legal possibility and will continue to do so. It is clear that we need to make living wills the norm for families in our state. Too few people use them.

Thank you for your response, Gov Bush. Before I post this, can you provide any measure of hope for a legal way to preserve this woman's life? To think that all her parents want to do is care for her and not see her starve to death, is, I think, not asking for a lot in this world. My own parents would feel the same way about me, I am sure[…]

Is there a way you can utilize Family Law as it pertains to abandonment of a spouse -- on the grounds of lack of sexual contact -- so that the path can be cleared for him to be legally removed by the state or her family as a husband?

Unfortunately, I cannot issue an executive order when there is a court order upheld at every level in the judiciary. Mr. Shiavo is the legal guardian and I can't override that fact. I wish I could but I have no legal authority to do so.

Can you use your authority to issue an Executive Order, to place her in a different hospice that has no connection to her husband, as a temporary stop measure to [get] this woman back on feeding -- so that you have the time necessary to review whatever other options may exist for you? This current situation with her removed from the tubes will result in an irrevocable situation.

If she's on the level, she must be a close aquaintance of Jeb, to be able to get a personal response so quickly. I understand he's received over 130,000 Emails so far on this, so it would be years before he could read them all. It's also possible it's a response from a staffer.

As far as her letter to Michael, I thought it was a good example of Christian charity to reach out to the "enemy". The most difficult commandment of Christ has got to be "Love your enemies.
Do good to those who hate you." I know it is for me. Most difficult.

At this late stage, during this most desperate hour, almost anything is worth pursuing.
What can it hurt to try to reach out to the one man who perhaps CAN stop this madness?
After all, if Michael had a change of heart, I guarantee you that feeding tube would be inserted pronto!

While I admire the fact that you wrote to Michael Schiavo you must realize that it is a waste of time. In *this* Michael you are not writing to a human being, but to an actual devil. Ye shall know a tree by its fruit.

"Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?" - John 6:70 (not: "like a devil" but an actual devil.)

Our Lord called Judas a "devil" because He has Divine knowledge, and knew that Judas would not repent.

We don't know that about Michael, or anyone else, since we don't have Divine knowledge.
There's always some hope, even if only slight, for grace to touch his heart.

Remember St. Paul. Before he was thrown off his horse and had that incredibly dramatic conversion, he was Saul of Tarsus, the most feared and hated persecutor of the early Christians.
Saul was on his way to Damascus with letters (from some judge, probably) authorizing him to arrest Christians. Look how evil he was, and look what God did for him!

Pray for Michael Schiavo, as hard as it might be.
He's a human being, regardless of how much evil he has already done.
There's still hope for him on this earth.

Thank you for your communications with Jeb on behalf of all of us, summer. I, too, am weeping over this and I'm so happy for the prayer thread which has been initiated here. I'm afraid that there will be many, like seek..., et.al., who do marvel that there is nothing which can legally be done. However, as Byron says in #44: sometimes leaders have to do some things which are right even if not legal. I don't know the ramifications for Gov.Bush (or Pres.Bush) if they choose to make some radical move, but I can vow that they will not lose voters in the process.

Sorry if I was hostile but I have been up quite a long time trying to get attention to this matter and I am very tired. Jeb needs to step in and right a wrong and that is the bottom line. Terri needs to live and get the rehabilitation she was promised and deserves. She also deserves the guardianship of her parents but if making her a ward of the state will save her right now then so be it. Again I apologize but Terri has been denied fluids and nutrition, etc. since Oct. 15 8AM. This is cruel and inhumane punishment and for others to sit idly by who have power to stop this is bordering on criminal negligence.

>>Our Lord called Judas a "devil" because He has Divine knowledge, and knew that Judas would not repent.

Then if He had divine knowledge as you say then He also knew to recognize Judas as a devil, just as He stated.

"Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?" - John 6:70

Not "like a devil." An actual devil.

What does a devil (demon) look like, how does he act? Well, he has the ability to take on a pleasing shape. He can take on human form, he can incarnate himself into one of a herd of pigs that throws itself into the ocean like in the scriptures, he can have the personal charisma of an antichrist, a Hitler, a false shepherd or leader in a church, or a husband who tortures and murders his wife.

"Ye shall know them by their fruits."

What are Michael Schiavo's "fruits"? Contention, strife, anger, confusion, lies, hatred, fury, and murder. And murder is what devils specialize in the most. From this they take after their father, the devil.

Jesus: "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." - John 8:44

Michael Schiavo may look like a human being, but he is a devil.

From another thread:

To: EternalVigilance

The following is the mail I sent to the governor ... addresses the 'how can he intervene' issue.

Governor, you are apparently looking for a scenario by which you may intervene to save Terri Schiavo. Well, try this on for size:

---Michael Schiavo has been defrauding his wife for more than seven years by cohabiting with another woman without divorcing Terri (adultery is illegal in Florida, breaching the fealty laws, so the guardian is breaking the law and it is even directed at his ward!);

---Judge Greer continues to allow Michael to ignore even the minimum reporting standards as the guardian of a ward, and Greer has allowed an unfit, defrauding guardian to continue holding life and death power over the person/ward he is defrauding, thus Greer has failed miserably to fulfill his state guardianship responsibilities to Terri Schiavo (the law in Florida makes the judge granting the guardianship a state's guardian of the disenfranchised ward--being appointed guardian does just that, completely disenfranchise the ward and that's why defrauding a ward is so egregious;

---the governor can suspend, without canceling, the execution of a ruling by this malfeasant judge Greer, until complete and thorough investigations of his rulings are made, and the governor may step in immediately to stop the death of Terri because the ruling will have an irreversible outcome should it continue and be later found to be in gross error.

Governor, act now to save this woman and be man enough to stand against the idiotic outcry that will arise from the democrats seeking to exploit your actions. You have the law and the responsibility to act on behalf of a defrauded ward on your side. DO SOMETHING DECISIVE AND DO IT QUICKLY BEFORE YOUR CITIZEN IS BEYOND SAVING!

Marvin Galloway, Johnson City, Tennessee

[May I remind you to think about where this nation would be had Katherine Harris, in 2000, been as wishy-washy as you are showing yourself to be? Hell, if Gore were president we might not even have a country! Thanks to our President, decisive action has saved this nation. Give the exercise a try ...be decisive.]

Gay Davis and Clinton made executive orders all the time, so I do not buy it. He could make an executive order that anyone that could drink water or digest nutrition would not be withheld those things in the care of a medical facility in the state of Florida. There are many different things he could come up with.

Some creative thinking could come up with the right executive order. Mainly that murdering someone by starvation is not legal would be a good start.

I am very ashamed of our justice system and of our country at this time.

Maybe it is a good thing that this is so very far away from me and I don't have the finances to be there. I would more than likely get shot because I would not just stand there.

When the jerks where shooting birds out at the Oxnard Golf Course I went out and grabbed tubbys gun and told him he was done shooting.

I could not just stand around.

Why doesn't Jeb Bush go to the hospice himself and make sure that if she is able to have water that she gets it?

After she is dead the media will have a new revelation and begin showing those video clips and show that she was not in the state as her husband so described, they will use this when the time is right. I am sure you know the way the have in the past and this will come up in the future.

Schiavo has the legal right

That is a key point not everyone here grasps

I did not know that anyone had a legal right to murder their wife.

I believe many of the "hate Jeb " crowd are really democrats who have seized a golden opportunity to bash Bush.

That they would use the starvation of an innocent woman as a vehicle to express hatred for Jeb is beyond disgusting. When these "new" posters are told repeatedly that's it's a liberal judge who has the power, they just skip over it and start again on Jeb.

It's starting to seem intentional. And the biggest offenders joined up within the last 90 days. The headlines they write for these "hate Jeb" threads have Jeb's name first. Each of them is a bash Bush diatribe.

So how do a great number of you react? "I'll never vote for Jeb Bush again - EVER!" Oh, that's brilliant. He's pro-life, he has sent letters to Greer and Schiavo and everyone else involved, spoken with the family at length, tried two interventions within his power, spoken publicly that what is happening here is wrong and given the Governorship's approval to the fight for Terri... but you'll never vote for him again.

First, I do not listen to Bill O'Reilly. Our family does not own a television. We do not listen to ABC Radio either. Second, any decisions I have made about this have come from my own reading and observing the sometimes infantile behavior of this woman's advocates on FR.

Third, I can understand that sensationalism sells in this media-driven age, but why is this "murder"? I have seen that word thrown around, but fail to understand why.

If a couple decide to use birth control to prevent the implantation of an embryo when informed that another pregnancy could kill the mother, would you have the state intervene to compel the woman to go forward with the pregnancy? While that case would certainly have moral ramifications. I would classify that as a family matter. To be consistent, you would have to call for state intervention.

If my child is maintained on a respirator and it is concluded that he will never come off of that machine, would it be "murder" to decide to take that child off the respirator? Should the governor be called in to prevent the father from taking the painful course of watching his child die? I would suggest that was a family matter. To be consistent, you would have to call for state intervention.

I would suggest that you spend less time throwing loaded phrases and rhetoric around and calmly and objectively describe her medical condition for those of us who spend twleve hours a day at work, then come home to have dinner with our children and read to them every night before they go to bed. Many, of us, have not followed this story like you have.

Finally, if our sovereign God desires to preserve the mortal life of this poor woman, He can sustain her or raise her from her bed. Your energy and anger appear to be hopelessly and helplessly misdirected. Even if unrighteousness finally prevails, what do expect in a world full of sinners?
