[history]
Supporters of a new law granting drivers licenses to illegal immigrants said Saturday they will stage work stoppages and other actions as part of a counteroffensive against a Republican effort to overturn the measure.
About 150 members of Hermandad Mexicana Latinoamericana, a Santa Ana-based immigrants advocacy group, were joined by Democratic officials at the group's national conference to devise strategies to protect the controversial law.

Nativo Lopez, Wasen't he recalled from his local school board by about 70% of the voters?
I think he wanted Bi-Lingual, (read spanish only) classes in Santa Ana schools.

"He said the economy of California would suffer without the contributions of immigrants."
Thanks to all those wonderful Mexicans, California now has a booming economy, and budget surpluses as far as the eye can see - uh, err.......

Along with work stoppages, the group intends to designate days on which supporters will not make purchases at stores or send their children to school. This reminds me of that Cleavon Little scene in Blazing Saddles.... "Take one more move and the n- gets it!"

Perhaps they'll threaten to return to Mexico if we vote for the referendum, just like the Hollyweird celebs threatened to move to Canada if Dubya won...

the economy of California would suffer without the contributions of immigrants I think he was referring to the brainiacs that move here from India/China to start IT businesses with financial backing from their home country's leading institutions.
(Yeah, of course there's lots of outsourcing, but what never get's mentioned is how many move/stay here to get a leg up on the forward trends.)

Yes but at least the Hindus and Chinese are here LEGALLY.
They don't need an Illegal Alien Driver's license because they have the proper documentation already.

"I think you boys've had enough beans"
Seriously, if they think they hold so much power, go ahead, boycott and strike away. In the mean time, make it mandatory for welfare recipiants to take on some kind of job, or lose checks. Take all of dropout and truant youth and send them out to the fields, the restraunts and the lawnmowing services, too.

I don't know. But I know it's the same group that's payed with taxpayer dollars for the purpose of training immigrants to become citizens. This group also "mistakenly" led these "citizens in training" to believe they had the right to register to vote prior to them actually getting citizenship. Of course, they claim they didn't mean to--it was just an understandable mistake. No, consequences occurred, even though the crime is a felony. In fact this group still receives taxpayer money to train potential citizens, who are, speaking redundantly, Mexican. The identified fraudulent voting in the Bob Dornan versus Loretta Sanchez race was directly attributable to this group. And, yet taxpayers are still paying the bills!

And so the lines are drawn.
Californians, support the initiative to place a referendum of the "license illegals" law on a statewide ballot. Sign up to circulate a petition at Save Our License.com or call (626) 357-8237.
The deadline is December 7th, act now.
To: Brian S
I'm all for illegal immigrant licenses -- so long as they are valid for no
longer than 48 hours and can be used only one-way to the border.

I suggest compromise legislation: they get drivers' licenses, which will be deemed adequate to operate a motor vehicle, but they will be conspicuously marked
ILLEGAL ALIEN
NOT VALID AS
IDENTIFICATION In addition, forward all the records to the INS so they can update their rolodex round file.
