Tommy sure was something. I don't know if a manager ever lived for a time as he did for the Dodgers. Even if they wanted him back, I don't think his heart would allow it.

Every Major league team has scouts in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea every year. They eat much more beef than they used too and are getting bigger- LOL! Believe me- we cull the best talent from those countries. There is some talk of adding a Tokoyo, Taiwan, and Seoul team to American League Baseball- they are that good!

Dont change the line up! The only reason the Red Sox got as far as we did is that Grady didn't change the lineup despite a poor showing throughout the post season from the Red Sox big bats until the end.

They crave the attention that the "lovable loser" tag brings.Hmmmm..., how does that explain the many long time Red Sox fans who were also Celtics fans back in the 60's, 70's, and 80's when Boston's basketball dynasty went on and on? How does that explain that most Red Sox fans also rooted for the Patriots when they won their SuperBowl a few years back.
How does that explain the tens of thousands of Cubs fans who also rooted for those Chicago Bulls teams and those Chicago Bears teams that won their fair share of championships?
The lovable loser tag is BS. People who live in or grew up near Boston are Red Sox fans, Celtics fans, Bruins fans, and Patriot fans. People who grew up in New York are Mets or Yankees fans. Out here in Northern California people root for the A's or Giants.
But to think logically and critically about these types of things is beyond most people.

To be a Marlins fan means you were one since birth (which means your are 12) or are a transplant and have no team. The only other possibility is that you are not a native of such a state and feel no loyalty to it some how.

If the Red Sox playoff bullpen success carries over to next year, they could win 110 games in 2004.

Most "legitimate Marlins fans" discovered there was a baseball team in Miami three weeks ago. The Marlins are a gang of mercenaries traveling the country, spoiling the post-season for real baseball fans. There is no joy in Wrigleyville, but there will be no joy in Miami if the Marlins win, because NO ONE CARES! Where were the "legitimate Marlins fans" when the team was 28th in attendance this year. Jai alai and dog racing draw bigger crowds in South Florida. If the Marlins take the Series, the players in the victory parade will outnumber the fans in the streets.
That's why I'm rooting for the Yankees. At least they'll bring cheer to their millions of followers.

The lovable loser tag is BS. People who live in or grew up near Boston are Red Sox fans, Celtics fans, Bruins fans, and Patriot fans. People who grew up in New York are Mets or Yankees fans. Out here in Northern California people root for the A's or Giants. Good points. But it seems like only some cities/teams get tagged with the cursed teams, while others have just as perenially unsuccessful teams, yet go unnoticed.
To wit -- the White Sox haven't won a World Series since the Black Sox scandal (they've actually gone longer without a title than the Red Sox have), and they haven't even been in a WS for 40 years. Yet nobody ever talks about a curse with them.
And how about Cleveland? When was the last time any team there won a title? Yet where's their curse?
To: NYCVirago
And how about Cleveland? When was the last time any team there won a title? Yet where's their curse? I've wondered the same thing about Houston. We thought it might be the Astrodome, but the Astros have managed to choke just as spectacularly in their new ballpark.
I'm off to see the Texans vs. Jets 3:00 pm kickoff soon. (Tailgate lubrication is required beforehand.) We're still a new enough team where we can use that as an excuse.
For now.
