A DAY IN THE LIFE OF PRESIDENT BUSH (photos): 10/17/03

President Bush and First Lady, Laura left California yesterday, and arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda airport (at around 3:00 am, Pacific time), where they were greeted by U.S. Ambassador Howard Baker. The President met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for talks on subjects such as international trade and the reconstruction of Iraq. The President and First Lady were dinner guests at the Akasaka State Guest House, where they dined on Japanese steak and Yakatori chicken, sitting on the floor, but were allowed to dangle their legs through a hole in the floor!

Japan is only the first stop in a whirlwind 9 day tour of 6 Asian countries and Australia, and including the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday. There are LOTS of pictures, many of which could have been selected as the “best,” (and which I have tried to assemble in some sort of orderly fashion), so enjoy your Daily Dose of Dubya!!

Sharing a toast with Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej during a State Dinner at the Royal Grand Palace in Bangkok, October 19

Rice looks back as she reaches the end of a receiving line with the Thai royal family and Bush and first lady Laura Bush at the Grand Palace in Bangkok October 19, 2003. Making his way along the receiving line behind Rice is U.S. Deputy Chief of Staff Joe Hagin

Wasn't the Crown Prince's named 'Chulalongkorn' in The King and I (or Anna and the King)?

Looks like the names are still similar now, 150 years later.......

Yesterday's photos were pretty self-explanatory, especially since you put an overview in the lead-in. Today's, well, they are another story!

Meeting with Thai troops. At Bush's left is Thai Minister of Defense General Thammarak Isarangura.

Being received by Thailand's King Bhumiphol, left, for a state dinner at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Oct. 19, 2003. At far right is Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn with Queen Sirikit.

I can hear the music of the"March of the Siamese Children" running through my head.

I LOVE that part, when the children are all meeting and bowing in front of Anna, with that great Richard Rodger's music accompanying them! One of my favorite moments of the musical!

Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn adjusts the tie of the King of Thailand (Nice to see such a human moment!)

Thailand's Commander in Chief of the Army Gen. Somdhat Attanand bows before a receiving line made up of the Thai royal family, U.S. President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush

(If there were no other reason to be glad that we Americans dropped the bowing habit, I'd have to say, Thank God none of our military commanders had to bow to blubba)

Accepting a gift as he and first lady Laura Bush tour the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok

There is a Scripture in the Old Testament that came to my mind while posting this Buddhist temple photo, which I can't recall well enough to find to post at the moment, but it concerned a non-Israelite whom God healed, who had to return to serve his master (he was a military leader, under orders), and his master served another god, not the Lord. The newly-healed man asked the prophet to secure God's forgiveness for him when he had to go into the temple of his master's god and be the one on whom his master leaned.

There isn't so much jollity as he is able to feel and express as when he is among English-speaking people ...

I cleaned out my cache midway through posting and that was a mistake because I have to reload all the photos to compare them to the next ones available at Yahoo (they often post very similar photos, not adjacent) ... hence the delay, but more are on the way.
