You'd be surprised how committed police officers are to the government, the establishment, and the status quo. They tend to have very positive attitudes toward government (being government employees) and the "democratic process." They probably think that they are serving their public duty by letting the State kill this disabled woman. The officers probably say to themselves: "Who would want to live like that anyway." People can justify any evil in the end.

Heavenly Father, we bow before You acknowledging that You are God. We acknowledge the truth of Your Word: "In Your hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind." Thank You that You are the Author of life ~ thank You that You, alone, know the number of our days.

Father, life for Terri seems to be coming to an end, by decree of man. Woe to us, O Lord, if the unjust are allowed to rule over the just. But as we come up against a ruling that allows the removal of daily bread from one less fortunate than another, we see the folly and foolishness of our ways. Forgive us, Lord, for we have been remiss ~ we seek Your wisdom, for we know not yet how to remedy the situation.

Do not lay our neglect at the bedside of a dying, harmless, helpless woman. Overrule, Heavenly Father, that she might live. In the vastness of this country, surely there is one in authority who will stand for her; in the midst of our judicial system, surely there are those with authority to restore this dear child. And if there is not, Lord ... then we are to be most pitied, for we have failed the least of these, our brethren.

You are the God of the Universe, interested in the affairs of men ~ I pray that men and women of courage will rise up to correct the wrongs that we have done ~ take not Your hand from our beloved country ~ take not Your hand of protection from this mother's child, but save her, not for merit of our own, but for the sake of Jesus, I pray ... The governor has been sympathetic to the Schindlers' efforts block their daughter's starvation, but has said he has yet to find a legal means to override court rulings that allow Michael Schiavo to disconnect the feeding tube. Here's a thought, maybe the judge who has repeatedly placed his stamp of judicial approval upon a defrauding spouse as guardian for Terri Schaivo is in error, that perhaps Michael Schiavo has proven he doesn't have Terri's interests at heart because he's been defrauding her for seven plus years, with adultery and raiding the trust funds set aside for her rehabilitation therapy used to pay a lawyer trying to get her put down like some family pet! Gee, do ya think a governor of a state has the power to intervene in an order to execute if the judge who sanctioned the effort is in gross error and the person demanding the death has been defrauding the victim for seven years and stands to gain a huge insurance fund?

I have personal experience of defying a court order the consequences of which were very serious indeed. However, as in this case, I knew nothing would ever change unless I was prepared to act despite the court.

I acted, I won.

Seems to me those rules are a bit of a problem. Too bad Terri's lawyers couldn't have focused earlier on somehow forcing the case to get routed to someone other than Judge Greer. Seems to me that the system as it exists is ripe for corruption.

The rules are to prevent judge-shopping and were in place long before Terri's case and will continue long after Terri's case.

In another case the Schindlers filed, for a TRO after the 1st order to remove the feeding tube, they did file the case before a different judge. Although the TRO was granted by this judge, the appeals court reversed. http://www.jud10.org/2ndDCA/july01/2D00-1269.htm

I do know that in my state, at least in a criminal case, a defendant (but not the state) gets one chance to change a judge (no reason has to be given the first time), but there are strict time limits on the request for change of judge. I'll have to check the rules for the time limit for change of judge for civil cases. If the Schindlers, as an interested party, didn't file for a change of judge within the time limits, the courts wouldn't allow it.

Why isn't the medical company who paid him off, demanding their money back?! Why don't we write to them? Schiavo misrepresented why he needed money. If she is to be killed and not live for the 50 years he argued for, he should give the money back!

That's a great point. It doesn't save Terri, but it's a good idea to make Mikey's life hell, which absent total unconditional repentance he would appear to deserve.

If memory serves, there are three poteltial litigants: a hospital, a doc, and an HMO.
