Chip Berlet is hailed by left-wingers as their preeminent hunter of fascists, extremists and hatemongers; however, this leftist muckraker hides a history of political extremism and yellow journalism. For example, Berlet has recently turned his poison pen on such dubious "anti-Semites" as David Horowitz. That's because Chip Berlet practices a strain of the leftist faith so vile that even some of his fellow ideologues have disavowed him. Berlet, in turn, has targeted those not sufficiently left-wing for him.

I had a run-in w/Chip on a list devoted to cult dynamics right after the attacks. He hijacked it to prevent a discussion of Islamism in the context of cults. At that point, the "recovering" cultists on that list joined forces to preach *examination of root causes* and to call every attempt to even post links to 3 different online translations of the Koran *racism*.

Chip cannot take the heat of criticism or debate. When challanged, he reverts to ad hominum and when that is met squarely, he whines.

Chip calls himself a journalist because he collaborated w/a real writer on a book ranting against *hate* in *right wing* talk radio. He makes his living selling organizing materials to other Leftists.

The guy defended Enver Hoxha's regime, for CHrist's sake. WHy the hell does Dees want anything to do with him? Was it because he's a fellow leftist and they both hate conservatives? That's it. I don't know why more people know about Berlet being a Hoxheist.
