America owes talk host Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say
LP Press Release ^ | October 16, 2003 | Libertarian Party Press

Posted on 10/16/2003 10:48:07 AM PDT by noprob

The entire nation owes radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say, because his ordeal has exposed every drug warrior in America as a rank hypocrite.

"One thing we don't hear from American politicians very often is silence," said Joe Seehusen, Libertarian Party executive director. "By refusing to criticize Rush Limbaugh, every drug warrior has just been exposed as a shameless, despicable hypocrite.

"And that's good news, because the next time they do speak up, there'll be no reason for anyone to listen."

The revelation that Limbaugh had become addicted to painkillers -- drugs he is accused of procuring illegally from his Palm Beach housekeeper -- has caused a media sensation ever since the megastar's shocking, on-air confession last week.

As the Limbaugh saga continues, here's an important question for Americans to ask, Libertarians say: Why are all the drug warriors suddenly so silent?

"Republican and Democratic politicians have written laws that have condemned more than 400,000 Americans to prison for committing the same 'crime' as Rush Limbaugh," Seehusen pointed out. "If this pill-popping pontificator deserves a get-out-of-jail-free card, these drug warriors had better explain why."

Given their longstanding support for the Drug War, it's fair to ask:

Why haven't President George Bush or his tough-on-crime attorney general, John Ashcroft, uttered a word criticizing Limbaugh's law-breaking?

Why aren't drug czar John P. Walters or his predecessor, Barry McCaffrey, lambasting Limbaugh as a menace to society and a threat to "our children?"

Why aren't federal DEA agents storming Limbaugh's $30 million Florida mansion in a frantic search for criminal evidence?

Why haven't federal, state, and local police agencies seized the celebrity's homes and luxury cars under asset-forfeiture laws?

Finally, why aren't bloviating blabbermouths like William Bennett publicly explaining how America would be better off if Limbaugh were prosecuted, locked in a steel cage and forced to abandon his wife, his friends, and his career?

The answer is obvious, Seehusen said: "America's drug warriors are shameless hypocrites who believe in one standard of justice for ordinary Americans and another for themselves, their families and their political allies.

"That alone should completely discredit them."

But there's an even more disturbing possibility, Seehusen said: that the people who are prosecuting the Drug War don't even believe in its central premise -- which is that public safety requires that drug users be jailed.

"The Bushes and Ashcrofts and McCaffreys of the world may believe, correctly, that individuals fighting a drug addiction deserve medical, not criminal treatment," he said. "That would explain why they're not demanding that Limbaugh be jailed.

"But if that's the case, these politicians have spent decades tearing apart American families for their own political gain. And that's an unforgivable crime."

You startling ability to miss the obvious is...not really remarkable, to be expected.

The only thing I'm cheering on is the LP's self destructive efforts to use Limbaugh...I don't want it to stop.

No . . . really?

Keep it up, "Chief". Those red, white & blue pom-poms and the elephant sweater are your own personal baby blues . . . put on pom pom uniform, disengage brain, relieve one's self of the effort of thinking for one's self . . .

Why do you care so much about what someone else puts into his or her own body of his or her own volition?

Spare me. Tell it to the crack babies. Tell it to the kids I know who live in a virtual hell because their parents are drugged out zombies. Tell it to the homeless druggies that somehow I am obligated to support. Tell it to the people I know who could have done something with their lives, but instead chose to kill their ambition with weed.

I assume there's a large city nearby. Would you rather get caught with drugs there, or back in your county? In other words, who's doling out the harsher penalty?

Now, do you think there might be a relationship between drug use and punishment? Nothing deters "serious gang activity" better than a big new jail with a neon sign out front that says, "VACANCY".

"If statistics are accurate and all drug abusers were arrested, somewhere between 30 and 40% would need to be incarcerated."

Only if you're going to arrest everyone who has ever used drugs. There might be a legal problem with that.

The most popular illegal recreational drug is marijuana, by far. If we were to just look at what you called "drug abusers", were talking about around 5% of the 12 and older population. These are people who have smoked any amount of marijuana in the last 30 days.

-- this thread is about the LP's press release trying to use Limbaugh to further their pro-dope agenda.

That non 'issue' has been 'discussed' ad nauseum, and found wanting.
The issue is now about your comical efforts to troll this into a Big Deal..

LOL! Whatever you wish to image...but I'll leave the fashion thing to you. You seem to have an indepth knowledge that I just could never compete with.

Me, I'm more the low key type of dresser. For instance, next election cycle, when the LP sets up their information table outside of the local Walmarts, there will be people (casually dressed, I'm sure to your disappointment) passing out copies of LP press releases.

It is only right that when the LP attempts to lure people in with a few key conservative issues, they also get to see the dark underbelly of the beast...the LP's press releases concerning the WOT and their efforts to use the personal suffering of a conservative icon for their holy dope crusade.

I guess you'd have to call me a button down kind of cheerleader.

As long as we're sparing each other, you can spare me the "it's for the children" reasoning. That's for liberals: this is a conservative Web site.

Sorry tp...while the lp's effort to use Limbaugh is indeed found wanting as you would say, that remains the focus of this thread no matter how much you and the spook would love to make it otherwise.

Based on your last post, I think we can definitively say that the reason I posted Federalist 10 was lost on you. Perhaps I was being too subtle. Yes?

I couldn't possibly look foolish because I haven't dismissed anything as a possibility. I haven't even dismissed the National Enquirer version as a possibility other than Rush has stated that it contains distortions.

However, you have placed your reputation behind the National Enquirer. You've already got Rush in jail without due process. You've decided that Rush is guilty until proven innocent. You're even trying to repeat a lie that Rush Limbaugh has stated which prescription medication that he's addicted to and the lie that he's stated how much he's taken.

But now that you've chosen to insult me, I'm going to make you look foolish. I'm going to call you on your bluff.

Please provide the source (or a link) where Rush Limbaugh himself has stated which SPECIFIC prescription medication he is addicted to. Also provide a source where Rush Limbaugh himself states how much of it he consumed and/or purchased.

My third grade eyes await for enlightlenment from the great Protagoras

It is very close to crossing over from a lame attempt to mislead to an outright lie.

That is an outright lie. From now on, if you are going to address something you claim I said, post the comment in italics or it will safely be assumed you made it up.

It only remains the focus of your clownish efforts at the 'big lie'..

What you don't seem to understand is that I really don't care why you posted them...or am I being too subtle?

Because based on your replies to me, i. e. "LP this, LP that, can't wait to squash the LP in the next election," etc., it's painfully obvious your purported insouciance is a mask for the real problem: density of a truly sad magnitude. You're bluffing, Chief, and very poorly. You must've gotten snaked in the hearts games and the poker games that went on below-decks.

Kidd:What is your source for which drug and how many he took?

Protagoras:Again, Rush Limbaugh.

You've been called on it again. Provide proof.
