David Limbaugh Gives Update On Rush
EIB Network
Posted on 10/16/2003 10:37:18 AM PDT by ventana
At approximately 1:15, Roger Hedgecock, sitting in behind the golden EIB microphone for Rush Limbaugh, interviewed Rush's brother, David. Rush, as fans know, is in rehab for an addiction to pain medication.
David spoke passionately about how completely united the Limbaugh family is around Rush at this difficult time as he makes his recovery and David stressed every family member's support. David was equally passionate about the family's gratitude for Rush's extended EIB family and the prayers, e-mails and offers of support they have provided during the last several days. He emphasized how much this support has meant to Rush, and he additionally emphasized that Rush is making solid progress.
David went on to ask that all of Rush's audience continue in their support both as listeners and individuals praying for Rush's recovery.
Following up, Hedgecock asked David about his new book, Persecution, regarding the war liberals are waging in the public square against Christians. Interestingly, the passion Limbaugh brought to this subject was a throwback to early Rush Limbaugh shows when the moral fabric of society, and the attack thereon often provided fodder for Limbaugh's discussions, spoofs, and insightful commentary. David Limbaugh clearly wished to honor his brother with his appearance and promised that more would be forthcoming in order to keep the EIB audience up to date regarding Rush Limbaugh

Yet another reason as to why I and so many other former LP supporters continue to get away from their fringe politics day after day.

"So many people have become addicted to this stuff and so many lives have been destroyed"
I had a kidney stone that had to be removed. Though the proceedure did not involve an incision (yes, that leaves only one OTHER way), the pre and post proceedure pain was killer. They hooked me up to a Morphine pump and I NEVER PRESSED IT ONCE. Sure I suffered more that I probably had to but I am VERY reserved on use of pain medication. anybody can get hooked on that stuff. I know this is not reasonable to expect for certain operations an stuff but in those cases, you need for your family to watch out for you. I wonder if Rush did not have the "curse" of all that money if this would have happened. If you had to justify to an insurance company the perscriptions, you may not get too much help.

Anymore it is safer to say that I and the LP have a few things in common, but the gulf between us on the others is wide...very wide.

I'm so glad Rush is doing better... As for David, I can't stand this guy. He's absolutely shameless in plugging his book... I happen to disagree with the overall premise- that Christians are being discriminated, though there are some good points there- the libs are trying to remove God from every institution...
Besides his voice, which is horrible, he can't stand up to scrutiny when asked to defend the primary assertions of his book - Susan Estrick tore him to shreds by asking a simple question - who's doing the discriminating? He bobbed and weaved, and came up with... nothing, nada, whining and more nothing. Pretty lame.

I hope G. Gordon Liddy takes a few days filling in. I heard him tell his story a few times last week how Rush jumped in and helped him when his radio program was in trouble. My opinion: Rush will come back stronger than ever.

You listen to David Limbaugh and to Susan Estrich -- and you complain about DAVID'S voice?!? Sheeesh!

You listen to David Limbaugh and to Susan Estrich -- and you complain about DAVID'S voice?!? Sheeesh!Excellent point, ya got me there! Estrich is awful to listen to, although lately, she's been moderate, for a lib... She creamed him though...
Rush has such a great voice, you'd expect his brother to be close... No such luck.

If moral credibility were predicated on moral perfection, even our church pulpits would be silent.
I've always had that problem with the common definition of "hypocrite". I think we should all be espousing and striving for a higher standard than we currently live.

My bet is you won't hear Liddy on Rush's show for a couple of reasons.....The last two hours of Liddy go up against Rush, or at least they used to.......Liddy is syndicated by competitor West Wood One.....and Liddy would simply be worn out doing two shows.
Frankly, many of the people who have been mentioned are people who now do shows on competing networks. Sean is on the ABC network, Laura Ingram is on someone elses (I think Westwood One), Savage is on some other network, same for Dornan. I don't think Clear Channel would promote talkers from other networks at this point.

These drugs are very addictive, and the body does develop a dependence on them. Obviously this is not something you have ever experienced. Regardless, they have their place with those who suffer pain 24/7, but they are addictive big time. The biggest problem is the stigma and misunderstanding in the public about those who really do need them.

If moral credibility were predicated on moral perfection, even our church pulpits would be silent.True enough but I am very curious as to how Rush will handle the general subject of the War on Some Drugs when he comes back on the air.
It seems to me that it will be a little hard for Rush to argue in favor of long jail sentences for drug users and even drug sellers after this episode. I think he has to take a postion that is consistent with his own behaviour and I think that is not the position he has taken in the past.
In any case I expect to see some sort of Talk Radio All Time Record set on the day Rush comes back. Even the libs will be listening.

Yes there is a stigma. And since these drugs are highly addictive, you can become an addict while staying within the confines of a legally obtained perscription. That stigma should be dealt with by the public. That is truly an addiction through no one's fault.
Rush's initial addiction probably started that way. But if he's been through detox twice, I can't see where any doctor in his right mind would re-prescirbe the pain killer(s) in question. And for that matter, I can't see where Rush would be in his right mind to re-request being put back on something that's hooked him twice.
There's another part of this that troubles me. I have a brother in law that went through a detox for cocaine more than once. During those detox programs, he was not allowed outside contact during the initial stages for quite some time. If I've read Rush's story correctly, at least one of his detox programs was longer in duration than the one day programs we have read about.
My question, if he kept those detox(s) from his wife, why wouldn't she wonder if something wasn't up if he was gone for days on end without phoning home. That's so strange. My wife would be all over me for not calling home even if I missed a night while on business travel. If it was for more than one night, she'd be tracking me down. Most women would. Something's not right there.

Even more interesting will be how he handles those who have had mental setbacks, financial setbacks, alcoholism, nicotine additictioin, personal problems and so on. He's been pretty rough on those who have not lived up to his expectations of "rugged individualism". He obviously hasn't practiced what he has preached.

Exactly!
What made me mad about Clinton wasn't the fact that he was faulty, but that he was an expert at it. When caught in a fault, the well-oiled criminal machinery was already in place to defend and assault and camoflauge.
Anyone with any sense could see that as events unfolded, Clinton was a criminal mastermind, with years of experience at subterfuge.

Not to quibble, but Jesus Himself was God from eternity, not a created Being. (John 1)
He was sinless.

FYI, I thought you might find this interesting, from NY Daily News.. :)
Strange but true: Add to the list of Rush Limbaugh defenders stand-up comic Jimmie Walker, the one-time "Good Times" sitcom star, famous for his exclamation "Dyn-o-mite!" Walker, who writes a right-leaning opinion column for the Jewish World Review Web site, applauds Limbaugh's job-ending ESPN remarks about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. "Of course Rush's comments had nothing to do with race and everything to do with the NFL's obscene [affirmative action] policy." And he dismisses Limbaugh's drug addiction as "a single demerit in an otherwise stellar career."

I do not recall a single poster who has demanded Christ like "moral perfection" from RushNot in so many words, but it has indeed been inferred that addiction to prescrip drugs is some sort of moral turpitude and at the very least hypocrisy.
It has not been pretty.

I will admit that I have a problem with what David Limbaugh was saying today. He implied that he was in contact with Rush.
I have always thought that when an addict went into "rehab", he was isolated, totally. From what David said today, it appears that Rush is in contact with family and friends. Not a good thing, from what I gather.
