Terri's clear effort to show the doctor that she heard and UNDERSTOOD the doctor's command does not move you? There was nothing "clear" about it. Schiavo is essentially dead - has been for 13 years. Let her family move on.

Indeed Jeb Bush CAN order a stay of execution since that is exactly what is happening. This execution is being done on an innocent girl under VERY suspicious circumstances. Oh, I know, those who think nothing of life will see it as "compassionate" if they care at all - just like the abortion debate.

The point is: she never got the chance. Don't you think every human being deserves that chance? Doctor's aren't God, they make mistakes, as surely you know. If this were your daughter, wouldn't you fight for her to at LEAST have the best that the medical community has to offer?

Your Posts 772 and 780 are your tacit acknowledgement that I have won this particular debate. I accept your judgement.

There was nothing "clear" about it. Schiavo is essentially dead - has been for 13 years.Did you watch that video to the end? It takes Terri about 20 seconds to respond to the command -- common for brain injured patients.
But is indisputably clear that Terri was responding, and in spades!
If you refuse to admit the obvious then there's no point in my arguing with you.

If you refuse to admit the obvious then there's no point in my arguing with you. That particular sword cuts both ways. And, I do have tasks I have to accomplish today. So, au revoir - may your sackcloth and ashes rest upon you lightly.

Very reminiscent of the ghoulish Professor Peter Singer of Princeton, who argues that parents should be free to kill their own children, up to some indeterminate age. (Insert Argument 183, comparing dissenting voices to Nazis ...)
Peter Singer drinks water and so do I. So I MUST BE A NAZI!
Please - even newbies to FreeRepublic can see through that pathetically weak argument.

So briefs here don't really matter.
What I don't understand is why a "stay of execution" can't be extended since she is being executed through starvation and has done nothing wrong. Plus the circumstances of her injury are questionable as well as the conflict of interest. Surely Jeb can do something with that.
This would be a good time to show some genuine compassion and make up for the child protective services problems with missing or dead kids.

"I was there all day and just got home. Much work is being done. EVERYONE IS BEING REQUESTED TO KEEP CONTACTING GOVERNOR BUSH." Why?
I mean, seriously -- why? Why bother?
The man knows right from wrong. He knows his rights -- and, his obligations, thanks to the sound advice provided by the top notch legal minds who gave him that advice after he requested it.
He then -- with full knowledge -- chose to dismiss their advice, and shirk his duty.
The man is a coward. He is afraid of offending his opponents. He is more afraid of offending his oppenents than he is of offending his constituency.
Thus, in typical Country Club GOP fashion, he alienates those who put him in office, in the name of pandering to those who will never vote for him.
Long term, the result is a massive increase in the numbers of those who will never vote for him. It makes sense, too, in a strange kind of way. Not voting for him is the best way to get his ear.
Short term, of course, the result is the successful murder of an innocent woman.
So, why bother contacting Bush? He knows what to do. He knows people want him to do the right thing. He's simply unwilling to do it.
He is a spineless coward. A typical blueblooded gutless wonder. He'll never back down from anything -- other than a fight.

Michael Schiavo is now "in hiding". HE HAS BEEN WEARING A LADIES WIG AND WOMEN'S CLOTHING TO COME TO THE VIGILS. He saw signs stating that he "was a murderer" which his attorney reported were upsetting to him i.e. OJ Schiavo. Michael Schiavo is a murderer. I missed MS in women's clothing twice this week. This was not in the media - brought straight to you by Free Republic Tampa Bay.
A woman??? He should be careful! Greer might spot him and start starving him before he realizes who it is.

Actually, I almost never ping anyone except for a kind individual who has asked me to do so about certain kinds of messages.
I just could not understand your opposition to seeing this poor woman reunited with her parents.
To: Poohbah
And they have no more weight than any other outsider with an interest in the outcome of the case. Other than the fact that the arguments have great internal weight of their own you are correct.
Do you think, truly, that this woman's constitutional rights are not being grossly violated?
Amazing how FReepers can argue for limited government and state sovereignty until either (a) the cows come home, or (b) they don't like the result...and then they demand expansive government.
Pretty oblique commentary there. But hardly surprising since you know darn well that I'm not arguing for expansive government, I'm arging for someone to have the guts to protect one poor, defenseless woman from a bunch of murderous ghouls.
Are you a ghoul, too? Or simply so much of a contrarian that you just have to jump into a situation like this and make a muck of things?
To: MarMema; strela
I heard a caller on the Glenn Beck program, which has covered Terri's case long, long before it has become an issue in the past few months, ask this question...
Has either Terri's family, or Michael and his attorneys, ever asked Terri if she wants to live or die?
I have never heard an answer to that question. Does anyone know?

To: Theodore R.
I just could not understand your opposition to seeing this poor woman reunited with her parents. My opposition is based on the fact that she is essentially dead in every meaningful way and that she (and her husband and family) deserve some peace. All the specious wrangling about smeared frames on a video supposedly showing her responding to stimuli, all the legal BS, and all the Bertha Better-Than-Yous on FreeRepublic making this their own special cause celebre' does not help Ms. Schiavo and is injurious to her.
The poor woman has been at the twilight of death for 13 years, trapped in a body that no longer functions. For her, every sunrise is a new, fresh hell. It is well past time to let her go and for everybody to get on with their lives.

Has anyone tried to get a grand jury to intervene?
To: Pan_Yans Wife
Has either Terri's family, or Michael and his attorneys, ever asked Terri if she wants to live or die? I have never heard an answer to that question. Does anyone know? Her answer to that question would have been the ideal solution, and illustrates why having a Living Will on file is so important. But, as far as I know, she didn't have such a document on file and is unfortunately paying the price as a result.
