I met Jimmie Walker at a comedy club a few years ago and talked to him afterward about writing material for him, since my wife and I are radio comedy writers. He stayed around to chat with us for nearly half an hour, sent us all the info and release forms he promised, bought some lines and paid promptly, and overall was one of the nicest people I've ever met in show business. I had no inkling of his politics at the time, but it's interesting that the "mean, hard-hearted conservatives" I've met in the business almost all turned out to be really nice people, while many of the "caring, compassionate liberals" treat regular people like toilet paper. Imagine how far you'd get if you tried to talk to Barbra Streisand after a show about submitting songs to her.

Wasn't "Good Times" produced by Norman Lear of People for the American Way? Interesting.
