Fox Sports ^ | October 15, 2003 | Section9

Post responses on this thread. Do or die for the Marlins. Break the Curse and Go to the Series or sink into ignominy for yet another year for the Cubbies.

Which will it be? Quien es mas macho?

Remember, Obey the Billygoat.....

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Hell, I ain't even gonna watch it tonight. The only way the Cubs win is if:

#1 - They just pound the hell out of the ball right away, or

#2 - They make the pitcher throw so many pitches he tires out.

If this happens, the Cubs take it 5-3.

If none of these happen, it's the Marlins 4-2.

Let's hope before the game, they advise all "fans" in the first three rows to sit on their hands.

From the Smoking Gun:

OCTOBER 15--Meet Steve Bartman. He's the poor 26-year-old Chicago Cubs fan who last night got his hands on that foul ball headed for outfielder Moises Alou's mitt. Bartman, who attended the University of Notre Dame, works for a Chicago-area consulting firm and serves as coach for a local youth baseball program. We wanted to speak with Bartman about last night's incident, but he did not return messages left on his office voicemail. And when we dialed Bartman up at his apartment--about three miles from Wrigley Field--we got a recorded message saying that his number had been disconnected. Which is probably not a bad idea.

AAAAAAARRRRRRGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAVEN'T WE SUFFERED ENOUGH?!

This attitude is stupid. Get mad and take it out on me. If this is the way Chicagoians act I hope the hell you do lose.
Their is not a fan in America that wouldnt have done the same thing under the same circumstances.Hell kill your short stop, I could have made the play he missed.
The film I have seen shows the ball on or within the rail.I also think it was that way because the umpire didnt call interference.
But if this is the way Cub fans act I hope you dont get another chance for another 60 years.

The Cubs' brass should bring out a real live billygoat onto the field and into pre-game warmups and make a mockery of this stupid curse. It would loosen all the players up and give the fans a good laugh and ease a heck of a lot of tension all throughout Cubbie land. It really would be a very smart thing to do.

I'm really afraid the Cubs are going to be "tight" tonight but if an old Billygoat was allowed onto the field to eat a shirt, preferably a cub-shirt, things would go well for the Cubs tonight.

And BTW, I don't believe in any curse, Goat, Bambino, or otherwise. I do believe in entertainment and the fact that some people actually believe in these stupid curses is fascinating entertainment in and of itself.

Yeah well some are still in full out "pout" mode. It is disgraceful. I tried to reason with this hatemonger earlier; http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1001507/posts?page=42#42

But apparently some people feel like big shots at other's misery. I too would say take it out on me rather than this kid. He sounds like a good guy who loves the Cubs (more than anyone in Ohio), and just made an honest mistake.

The fact that people want to blame him rather than the manager or the players speaks volumns about their need to put people down.

I admit last night I wanted the Cubs to win and go on to the World Serious, but after the treatment that young man received from Cub fans I'm not so sure anymore. And the treatment wasn't just ugly, it was vicious, even life threatening it could be argued.

I don't know if the treatment is indicative of Cub-nation as a whole or just a few misguided fans piling on to this poor soul.

If there was any goat out there at Wrigley last night it surely wasn't along the left field line where foul balls land.....it WAS in the Cub dugout, at shortstop, on the mound, in the field, in the bullpen, and might have even been chewing a toothpick.

As a life long 3rd generation Cub fan I can assure you that that these people are not indicative! Most of the jerks writing about this aren't even Cubs fans, (the Sun Times is owned by the Trib, their biggest, and most hated Chicago rival) they're just general sports-dorks who take pleasure from public people they can put down to build themselves up.

Usually the ripping is of pro athletes which is hard because someone can always point out that player X is way better than they could ever be, but this guy is the Perfect Storm of things they can put down, he's not an athlete, he made an honest but dumb mistake, it appeared to involve a supposed "curse" which sports-dorks who don't understand X's and O's LOVE, and it preceded one of the biggest meltdowns on the big stage in sports history.

Don't assume these people represent the Cub nation.
