Post responses on this thread. Do or die for the Marlins. Break the Curse and Go to the Series or sink into ignominy for yet another year for the Cubbies.
Which will it be? Quien es mas macho?

The Cubs have a whole roster full of Bill Buckners. They deserved to lose. And they did.

I hope Luria gets his stadium. As long as the taxpayers don't buy it for him.

The Cubbies and the Red Sox will always have their loyal fans, packing in Wrigley and Fenway every game. As a Boston fan you are right- but in a way that hurts these two franchises. Going to a Cubs or Red Sox game- no matter how they are doing- is a religion. Management knows they can make money without making the big trades or big deals for big stars. They know we will come like idiots every season. I have attended at least 3 games a year since I was ten and the worst attendance I saw was about 2/3 filled. What was done to the Marlins after their first series win must have been a real blow to the fans of a young team. More of a baseball fan myself. I like the patriots but don't follow them like I do Boston College. ACC admittance! Good news for BC. Go Eagles and Go Sox!

Bull, look at the picture, some of the fans backed off. Look at his hands, they are over the railing. He is not the reason the Cubs lost, but he wasn't without blame. Never ever reach over the railing (unless you can screw the other team.)

You attack the Marlin fan too much. After what Wayne did to this team and the constant threat to move or contract this team, what did you expect??? You just could not feel that this would be your team much longer. You can't blame the fan too much. I certainly was extremely hurt by what stinkin Wayne did in 97. Additionally, with the continued talk that they would move or be contracted, I just could not feel like this was my team. I tried but I just couldn't. I became very afraid to fall in love back with the Marlins to only have them taken away from me by contraction or moving to nothern virginia. And I am sure I am not the only fan that felt that way. I feel now that this team is here to stay and it ain't going anywhere in a while. I also believe a new ballpark will eventually be built. You also talk about the Marlins having no tradition. Well, they finally put a team here in 93. How in the world can the Marlins match tradition with a team that is more than 100 years old??? Good for the Cubs!!! But they were also an expansion team once. Hopefully, Marlins tradition will continue to be built.

That's correct.
Pathetic, ain't it?

Now I have to care about the Bears. More depressing than the Cubs loss.

I used to follow baseball until the games just got so long - or seemed to anyway - maybe we just got busier, so don't know much about Dusty except he came from the Giants and I questioned his judgement at letting a 3 year old play in the dugout.
Anyway, tonight I was wondering if he's just a care-taker manager? I was yelling at him to pull Prior last night a couple batters before he did. He knows his bullpen better than I do, but waiting until the bases are loaded - I think - games are starting to run together - is not the best time to bring in a shaky reliever.

Cute. No MOST as in a few million scattered around the country (Cubs fans are highly mobile). Really just how many ACTUAL fans (not media clowns trying to create story) have you seen blaming the guy since yesterday's game ended? I've seen a handful of people on FR but nothing outside of that, nothing at the stadium. By Monday it will just be a part of the legend, if he plays it right he can turn it into local celebrity and maybe some free trips to games.

Well, the city I live in (Seattle) has only one championship
in their history..............
in any sport -- the '79 Sonics.
But I've only lived here for 2 years, so I'm unaffected by their futility.

True, the Bears Super Bowl win in '85 was awesome. As a former Blackhawks Season ticket holder though, I would trade all of those Bull's championships for one Stanley Cup. I was able to watch the Penguins with the Cup, and it broke mine and my father's hearts. I know he's up there, having a beer right now telling God Cub's fans shouldn't have to deal with this again.

The games really did get so long (averaging around 4 hours these days).
Dusty's the real thing. He doesn't trust the Cubs bullpen, and he has a long history of keeping pitchers in the game too long. BUT the Cubs won almost 30 more games this year under him than last year without him, AND actually won a series. Not a care-taker, might not be the guy to take us to the promised land but he can probably get us to tickling the soft underbelly pretty regularly which is a lot better than we've had.

Poor Darren Baker. First he saw the Giants lose last year in the World Series, and now the Cubs. That little kid is going to be traumatized!
