BETHANY - Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich made a quick stop in Oklahoma on Tuesday, blasting international trade compacts and promising to end American involvement in Iraq.
Its time to end the occupation of Iraq and bring our troops home, he told a crowd of about 75 at Wiley Post Airport. The Iraq war has left us wasting tens of billions of dollars for a war that didnt have to be fought.
Kucinich made the stop in Oklahoma as part of a three-day tour across 11 states to formally announce his candidacy for president. The trip began in Cleveland, where he was mayor in the late 1970s.
We expect to see more of them and the other seven Democrat candidates carrying the same message of protest, pessimism and baseless negative attacks on the president, which have become a regular component of their campaign stops, said Lindsay Taylor, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee.
One of the most liberal of nine candidates seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, Kucinich repeatedly blasted President Bush and American foreign policy. He said Bush has ruined relationships with longtime allies in Europe.
Kucinich said America should not be involved in the sale of Iraqi oil, instead allowing the United Nations to take control until the country is stable. He dismissed concerns by critics of the United Nations who say the multinational group mishandled Iraqi oil wealth during an oil-for-food program under Saddam Hussein.
Its not a perfect vehicle by any means, he said. But with support from us, they can handle the situation in Iraq.
Kucinich promised to withdraw America from the North American Free Trade Agreement and establish a manufacturing policy that includes zero-interest loans to states for infrastructure improvements. He says the country should spend more than $500 billion to rebuild schools, roads, bridges, ports, sewer systems and government buildings through a WPA-like program.
America never set forth a plan, he said. I know when jobs are lost for breadwinners, it isnt just a statistic. Families become unstable. Families are breaking up because America doesnt have a manufacturing policy.
Kucinich said he would forge trade agreements with other countries that force governments to provide human rights for workers and allow them to organize as labor unions.
We will set the terms of business, he said. Our terms are human rights.

Thats right Dennis. We could have done nothing, a la the Clinton Administration, and simply waited for terrorism to strike us again (WTC I, Khobar Towers, Sudan Embassy, USS Cole, WTC II) - except one of the future attacks would be via bio/chemical weapons. Brilliant. I can't stand listening and reading about these mental midgets.
Sorry Dennis, families are breaking up due to moral decay. And what political philosophy supports such decay? Hmmmm, I'm thinking of a word that starts RAT and ends with RAT.
Yes, he was the mayor of Cleveland in the late 1970s. The river that runs through Cleveland caught fire and the fire department wasn't able to put it out. That's Kucinich's claim to infamy.
Nope Kuchinich bankrupted the city of Cleveland. The river caught on fire when Stokes was mayor, before Dennis the Menace.
His "balls" are probably a pair of rolled-up socks stuffed inside his pants, however.
Not even the esteemed Coleman A Young of Detroit did that. Well, he didn't get caught anyway.
Kucinich then, in the seventies:
Versus now:
I smell Naomi Wolfe and a comb.
