I think the 2000 election pretty much showed how divided our house is...and we know the fate of a house divided against itself. But you may be right that the "festivities" will begin after the 2008 election.

Here's a thread about Chittum's book and the whole idea of a second civil war in America:

I have felt for a long time that some kind of civil war or extreme civil unrest is coming soon. The major cities in this country are overcrowded with little to no investment in infrastructure for over a decade. The poor are getting poorer and the middle class are shrinking in these urban areas. People are pissed off as noted by the recent recall here in California.
I don't know if it will happen. It just seems that their is a lot of pent-up anger and no where to vent.
Just my two cents.

Actually...the battle for the protection of the Second Amendment will decide the fate of this Republic...

I don't know how I missed that one. Must have worked late that night. Thanks. Looks like it will take a while to read and digest.

Yes, but you can't shoot unarmed people without raising a ruckus.

A lot of the left has guns. They just don't want us to have them.

I'm a big RKBA supporter, but I am afraid the concept of the Second Amendment being the restart button on the Constitution is soon to be overtaken by technology. Civilian irregulars with small arms are just not the militarily significant threat they used to be. Look at Iraq. They have stockpiles of AK's in the basement of every grade school and what good has it done them? The overmatch of Land Warriors in advanced body armor versus the highest speed militia I can envision is so great as to be almost suicidal.

I agree. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley (now living north in Acton...soon to Idaho I hope). The SF valley, and the City of L.A, are VASTLY different places than they were 30 years ago. Not to sound paranoid but I think the Rodney King "venting" session was just a preview of the sadly inevitable. I don't know what combination of factors (race, unemployment, decaying infrastructure, etc) will be the catalyst but I expect another large display of city wide and possibly state wide unrest within the decade. I hope not...but I think It'll happen.

I agree, but that assumes we won't have a pretty substantial formation of the military on "our" side.
If the military takes sides as a whole, game over. If it splits...
