Nebraska Player Caught On Video Assaulting Mizzou Fan
POSTED: 10:13 a.m. EDT October 14, 2003 UPDATED: 10:47 a.m. EDT October 14, 2003
OMAHA, Neb. -- Nebraska's football coach says he's reviewing an ugly incident caught on videotape after Saturday's loss to Missouri.
Video - http://www.wftv.com/sports/2552858/detail.html#
A Nebraska player is seen hitting and knocking down a Missouri fan when the two crossed paths on the field in Columbia, Mo. Fans swarmed the field after the Tigers beat the Cornhuskers 41-24.
The Nebraska player, Kellen Huston, ran on toward the locker room, while a Missouri player helped the fan off the turf.
Nebraska coach Frank Solich says he has spoken with Huston but no disciplinary action has been taken. He says he regrets it if a fan was hurt.
The police chief at the University of Missouri says there's been no complaint filed and no arrest.
Speaking to CNN, the fan said that he was punched and that Huston should face disciplinary action. The fan wanted to remain anonymous.

But, we all know that ONLY University of Miami players are thugs.
Nebraska players are angels.

Bad behavior for several losers this weekend. Ohio State linebacker Reynolds was caught in third quarter on camera gouging Wisconsin starting quarterback in throat after a gang tackle. It was so bad that quarterback did not get back in the game cause he couldn't talk. Reynolds efforts were not rewarded, even though he wasn't penalized; Wisconwon the game on the last minute heroics of reserve quarterback.

The Missouri player who helped the fan was QB Brad Smith who had just rushed for 3 TD's in the game. MU Coach Gary Pinkel said Smith ran up to him immediately after the game and was "visibly upset" over what he had just seen occur.
Smith is just a sophmore and is already being mentioned as a Heisman candidate. Probably not this year but definitely his junior and senior years. Also, one of the nicest people you could possibly meet.

If this sore-loser behavior is tolerated, it becomes condoned. Nebraska and Ohio State should address the situations themselves with a game suspension or something. If they don't, then the Big Ten and Big Twelve should step in. However, I don't think the NCAA should stick its nose in.
BTW I thought Reynolds' actions were a clear intent to injure. He had a tight grip on his neck with all of his weight behind it.

Here's a thought.
How about if the players are given the opportunity to leave the field of play after the game before turning 10,000 fans loose when the game clock hits 00:00?
If a player wishes to stay on the field to greet the adoring fans, or talk to the press or other players, fine.
But this is getting ridiculous. And it's not the first time there's been a conflict like this.

There is no doubt about it. The player took a cheap shot at the guy.

The story is that the fan yelled some obscenities as he was running past the player (Kellen Huston). So, Huston reached out and touched him. Here's a thought, unless you're wearing a football uniform, stay off the field. And, for cryin' out loud, don't taunt the losing team from within arm's reach.

Here is a mug shot photo of the young punk scholar-athlete, Mr. Huston:

Huston reached out and touched him. "Touched him"? It was a vicious, violent, forearm-elbow smash to the head. Then the padded coward runs away.
Here's a thought, unless you're wearing a football uniform, stay off the field.
Home fans running on the field after an exciting, historic, upset win is a long-standing college tradition. Happens every year at many places. Some padded punk player assaulting a fan and then running away is not very common.

I was being facetious when I said "touched him".
If the fan had not run onto the field AND yelled obscenities it would not have happened. Besides, I don't think Huston was a "padded coward running away". The fan was in NO position to respond and Huston jogged away. In fact, I'm not sure he even broke stride.
I'll just come right out and say it, if the fan was there yelling at the opposing team he got what he deserved.

The fan was in NO position to respond... Yep, getting sucker punched will have that effect.

Yep, getting sucker punched will have that effect. If the fan was pointing and yelling obscenities, as is alleged, then it was not a sucker punch.
