BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Democratic Party released a poll Monday showing Democrat Kathleen Blanco of Lafayette with 41 percent and Republican Bobby Jindal of Baton Rouge with 35 percent of the vote as the two gubernatorial runoff candidates prepare to meet tonight in the first of at least two statewide television debates, which Blanco plans to limit and Jindal keeps pushing.

Apparently, Blanco is attempting to use the same playbook as Arnold: limit as many debates as possible and have the subject of the debates to be under controlled environments.

I don't like how the LA Governor contest is taking shape now. The race is leaning to the Dems. I guess Bayou residents shall soon say hello to Senator Chris John. On the brighter side, at least Chris John and Kathy Blanco are pro-life. But still, the pending Breaux Senate switcheroo annoys me.

I don't like how the LA Governor contest is taking shape now. The race is leaning to the Dems. I wouldn't put too much weight on this poll, since it's a partisan survey. I do believe Blanco probably has a small lead and should be considered a slight favorite, but would guess this race is closer to even than +8 for Blanco.

Jindal still has the money to take his message straight to the voters as well as organize turnout. Blanco has a nominal lead going in, but that's contingent on turnout of the Democrat base, which didn't vote for her in the primary. Jindal needs to win over a few voters to bring the race to 50-50, and winning the debate plus good advertising can accomplish that. But he does need to win the debate, and that means in style rather than substance (a win on substance is assumed). He has connected very well with Louisianans so far, so I'm hopeful, but being a highly educated policy wonk and still being likeable can be tricky when debating a grandmother.
I'm predicting a Jindal win Nov. 15th.

If he loses and Blanco wins I pray she keeps the talk show Foster created running. A state-wide forum to show how ignorant a Democrat is for an hour every week is as good as gold.
Sadly, like the debates Kathleen would probably dump the show and defer the hard things like running the state to her husband.

This race doesn't seem to be stirring much interest among the public as yet, at least not compared to same contests in the recent past. At the LSU game last Saturday I saw very few bumper stickers or buttons. What few I did see were for Jindal, but not many of them at all.
Nitpick: Foster is quite wealthy, but one of the wealthiest men in the state? I'm not so sure about that.
