Rush Limbaugh is off the air. But his critics are only just now getting on his back. As he tries to kick his prescription drug habit, those who hate him are just kicking him. I say, give it a rest.

Downey is exibit "A" on why we should NOT legalize drugs

And why is that? Why cant he eat whatever junk he wants and veg in the basement? Why not? What happened to Life, Liberty, and the persuit of happiness?

But doo-gooders who feel compelled to control others have sent us down this slippery WOD slide where a good man has been sent to the crapper by the likes of you. All you rascally totalitarians who dont like selective vegetables should hope that pain does not visit you. Eating opiates, even a lot of opiates, does not necessarily impair your ability to function in our society. Rush is now the poster boy for clean productive folks who eat opiates.

Even Robert Downey was making $$$ on films and TV while gorked on whatever. But thats not OK for a lot of people who cant stand that others can run their own lives - you gotta get in there and try and control them.

Ok so the persuit of happiness has to go, whats next?

I guess this Rush thing has really been one of those "a ha" moments for me. I know I have heard Rush himself say that libs want things to go wrong for their own advancement, and certainly I've seen it, but the glee they have shown during this, and Charlton Heston and Reagan's battles with disease, has been so distasteful it has taken me, naively, by shock. I know they want more soldiers dead, my job gone and my bank account dry if it means more power for them, but it is hard to shallow that they are so uncertain and insecure in their own beliefs and arguemnts that they wish ill on their perceived enemies.

Ugly.

The question is not if he was addicted to painkillers. He has already admitted to that. I know how easily a person can become addicted to them, and I have an abundance of sympathy for him. The question is, did he break the law when he procured them. If the answer is yes, there is no excuse, or "special circumstance" that should apply to him. At that point is when the Hypocrite labels will start flying. The man should buck up and take his medicine (no pun intended)

"Where is your evidence that Rush went after the war on drugs week after week?"

Hmmm... as a regular listener, don't recall him making much of the WoD at all. Never WRT prescription drugs. Can you cite some instances?

Oh, I know. You mean his references to long haired, dope-smoking, FM listening, maggot infested hippies.

Oh ya. Most people suffering from lower back pain who acquired an addiction over time to prescription pain killers sure as sh!t fit that mold!

Wrongo--I had two discs in my back herniate last year, almost a year exactly...Dr gave me steroids to help and 100 little blue Morphine pills.

The steroids made me bloated and my voice went up two octaves, I couldn't eat...blah, blah. The morphines were to be used once per day. After a month or two, the pain wasn't being blocked and I stopped taking the pills. Losing weight was the final prescription the Dr. gave me...so I dropped 25 lbs. Today, I still have some pain from time to time, but there are still 75 morphine pills sitting there that I won't be using...should toss them now I suppose.

I can tell you, the pain I had was excrutiating, I couldn't walk three steps without going to my knees, so I can imagine if you got several 'srips from different Dr's it could VERY EASILY happen and get hooked.

We're all human, all with different tolerances to pain. Pain is the #1 debilitating byproduct for most injuries to the back, we just react differently.

Heard Neil's Common Sense comments about Rush tonight. Made me feel good that many in the media are praying for him.

As for all the libs and the bashing of Rush, 'People that live in glass houses should not throw stones'.

And yes put me in the column that sees a difference between getting hooked because of painkillers and getting hooked for kicks and spare me the emotional and mental pain of those who got hooked for kicks or that oxycontin is synthetic morphine "just like heroin" yada, yada.

Add me to that column.

I have listened to Rush for 9 years, 15 hours a week. You my friend do not know what you are talking about!

Yup. Either a teenager or a school teacher. Another uninformed dolt "who just doesn't get it" in the reality of life.

It is mind-boggling how uninformes, un-thinking these morons are. This planet is doomed with dolts walking around on two effing feet with their minds in the Twilight Zone. DUH to these morons. /rant

Some news org did a search on Rush vs Drug Talk and found the last time he said anything anti-drug was 3-4 years ago...

That's not true. It took me all of about 10 minutes doing searches on Rush's site to find plenty of recent statements supporting the war on drugs. Some examples:

August 18, 2003:

"Someone needs to remind Justice Kennedy that it's the legislative branch, not the Supreme Court, which makes law. Mandatory minimums are totally constitutional. And these tough sentencing laws were instituted for a reason. The American people, including liberals, demanded them. Don't you remember the crack cocaine epidemic? Crack babies and out-of-control murder rates? Liberal judges giving the bad guys slaps on the wrist? Finally we got tough, and the crime rate has been falling ever since, so what's wrong?"

July 21, 2003:

"This got me thinking about the differences between liberals and conservatives, which are substantive, and how conservatives would never leave this country. But if these Democrats want to flee to Canada, then by all means let's not stop them. That's just less people in this country voting Democrat. In fact, let's come up with a way to encourage them by sending them to a nation where there are high national income and sales taxes, they cuddle up to dictators like Castro, say the U.S. is evil, have no military, seek to legalize drugs - in short, a nation where all liberal dreams have come true (and turned into nightmares)."

May 27, 2003:

"I go into detail about these non-thinking talking points that `you can't tell people what to do with their bodies' and `you can't legislate morality.' First of all, we tell people what they can do to their bodies all the time - no cocaine, no prostitution, no throwing yourself off a building. Second, laws are nothing but defining morality!"

I KNEW Neil Cavato had a depth and a sincerity that was unusual. Just didn't know WHY he seemed profound.

God bless him. He IS real.
