[history]
In one of his final decisions on legislation as governor, Gray Davis late last night vetoed SB 328, which would have allowed low-income illegal immigrants to have their fees waived at California Community Colleges. Here is a PDF file of the governor's veto message. More on this and other last-minute vetoes and signings as the dust settles on about 200 bills Davis acted on over the weekend.

Davis doing the right thing? I'm stunned. If he'd tried this earlier, maybe he'd have survived the recall.
To: John Jorsett
Since he didn't need to pander for any more votes, sanity FINALLY prevailed.

Nothing like getting your sorry ass thrown out of office to drive the message home, huh? At least he had the decency to spare Calfiornians from having to institute yet another ballot initiative.

He's probably a little hacked off with Bustamante for jumping in and trying to become governor. How many of the "yes" on recall, "yes" on Bustamante votes were there?

I'd bet that he's pissed at Cruz and the 47% of the Latino community that voted for the recall. Ol' Gray doesn't have a forgiving bone in his body.

Yep, 47% of the Hispanic community voted for the recall, and what was the % of Hispanic voters voting for Arnold?
I remember that it was surprisingly high.

Yep, 47% of the Hispanic community voted for the recall, and what was the % of Hispanic voters voting for Arnold? I believe it was 34%. The Mexicans, it would appear, are getting tired of tax and spend. They're also tired of the Mexican system of tax and deposit (in Swiss bank accounts).

He also vetoed a needle exchange program expansion over the weekend.
Who'd a thunk it?

Thanks. I heard that it was high.
Some of the most conservative people we have met in California are Mexican/American citizens. Like so many of us when they buy a home, pay taxes and try to better their lives for their children, they become very conservative.

My thought, it was nothing more than payback.

I believe Davis had paid for and was counting on at least 500,000 "No Recall" votes from about 250,000 Mexicans and other illegal aliens living in and near California. He didn't get that many and is just getting even.

He did the right thing again. Illegal aliens don't deserve a break native Californians don't get. Its the principle, stupid.
