LANSING, Mich. (AP) U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich planned to stop in Detroit Monday afternoon as part of a 12-city tour formally announcing his run for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The Ohio congressman was to make a short presentation to supporters at 2:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Community College-Eastern Campus, then hold a news conference.
Kucinich has the support of about 2 percent of Michigan voters likely to vote in next February's Democratic presidential caucuses, according to an EPIC/MRA poll released Friday. That's far behind leader Howard Dean, supported by 21 percent of those surveyed.
But Kucinich's Michigan supporters aren't discouraged. They've been attending monthly Meetup meetings for his campaign and hope to recruit more supporters drawn by Kucinich's call for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq and handing over administrative and security responsibilities to the United Nations.
Monday's visit would be the first of two trips to Michigan for Kucinich this week. On Friday, he plans to hold a fund-raiser and rally before speaking to the Arab American Institute conference in Dearborn.
He plans be in the state again for the Oct. 26 Democratic presidential debate in Detroit
He'll do for America what he did for Cleveland......
