Dan Onorato, the Democratic nominee for Allegheny County chief executive, has picked up the endorsement of state Treasurer Barbara Hafer, a Republican and former ally of his opponent, incumbent Jim Roddey.

Hafer, of Elizabeth Borough, touted Onorato yesterday as the candidate with "better vision."

Hmm. Probably timing her switching announcement to coincide with her endorsement of Dean or Kerry. If Toomey beats Specter I can see her gushing about Hoeffel.

The question is what is she going to run for? Attorney General? Comproller General? State Supreme Court?

Rumour has it that Hafer is going to switch parties and run against Santorum. I think this would be a giant blessing for Rick, as I can't see how she'd raise any money from the D's. But who knows.

Seems like a Jeffords "moderate" to me.

Better vision? Ironically, that lesbian abortionist Hafer wears glasses:

IIRC she blows right past 'moderate' into leftist territory.

In 1990, Hafer ran for Governor against Pro-Life Dem Bob Casey. She was endorsed by the NOW gang. Casey crushed Hafer, 68%-32%. If Hafer can't beat Casey, I don't see how she could beat Santorum.

Hafer V Casey

A prime example of bad versus worse. But which was which?

Bob Casey was one of the last honorable Democrats.

He was. But he was also a fiscally inept tax'n'spender wasn't he?

But I guess RIN0 (RINA? :) ) Hafer wouldn't have been much better on that front.

The interesting thing about Bob Casey was that he made a liberal argument for being pro-life. He often spoke of the unborn as a minority in need of government protection and social services like welfare and universal healthcare.
