[history]
U.S. Rep. Joseph Hoeffel, a Montgomery County Democrat, has all but officially announced that he is a candidate for the U.S. Senate, setting the stage for a possible campaign against Republican incumbent Arlen Specter in November 2004. The three-term congressman will make his intentions known "within the next few weeks," a spokesman said.

I hope Spectre looks at all this and realizes that he brought this on himself with his weak politics. Reality check Arlen...you are a republican, act like one.

Specter has his faults, but compared to Joe Hoeffel, he looks like Reagan. Hoeffel talks moderate, but is as bad as Ted Kennedy on the issues.

Democrats Claim Spectre is Vulnerable! Where have they been?
We PA FReepers have been saying this for the past two months!
Toomey is gonna be the next PA Senator!
Reality check Arlen...you are a republican, act like one.
Arlen only acts like a Republican when he's running for re-election. The remaining 5 1/2 years, he reverts to his true form, a flaming Liberal RINO!

As a PA resident that has watched Sen. Specter barely defeat strong opponents in the past, this is seriously bad news.
PA Repubs have never been thrilled with Sen. Specter due to his pro-choice, too frequent anti-gun stands on the issues.
His most outrageous comments came during Pres. Clinton's trial in the Senate where Sen. Specter hoped to invoke Scottish law to make his decision and then voted to acquit the former President.
Joe Hoeffel is a strong campaigner, decent looking, polished guy. If he runs a "You've been in the Senate too long" campaign, he could convince voters to throw Specter out.

That's if he ends up against Spector.
That's a mighty big
IF!
Frankly, I doubt Spector will even get the Republican nomination.
So Hoeffel's "You've been in the Senate too long..." ploy won't work against Toomey.
I love it when a plan comes together! BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

If Specter is vulnerable, it's because he chose to be a RINO.

Toomey needs more money, that and his campaign seems fairly non-responsive, granted it's only August and the Primary isn't til what May? But still I haven't gotten any response to two different e-mails I sent them.

I would really like to see a good grassroots activiy in this campaign. I think if the Toomey could put together something like that, and have alot of us Freepers and others out in the field, that's his only hope. He's not going to outspend specter, but in the primary that's not as important as if you have good grassroots. I think if they organized an assault on local GOP Committees they could swing many many of them into their camp.
