The recount in Maryland just ended and score another gain for the Republican party. Long time Maryland Democrat Speaker of the House was defeated by a Republican newcomer. The margin of victory being 700 plus votes. The Republican actually gains votes during the recount.

Very nice! I think the Maryland GOP really has a chance to become competitive with Ehrlich and Steele in charge. They seem very committed to building the party.
Any word on a legitimate challenger to Sen. Mikulski (you know, hold her to 60 percent)? She'll be 68 for the 2004 election, so that might be her last term. Looking way ahead, Bob Ehrlich serves two terms as governor and is looking for work in 2010, when Mikulski's seat comes open, theoretically.

The GOP has never been able to field a credible opponent against Mikulski. Perhaps they can convince Michael Steele?

Alan Keyes ran against Sarbanes once and Linda Chavez ran against Mikulski. Perhaps one of them might be willing to take another crack at it.

Would they let Chavez have another crack? If things continue to go well for the country and Bush's popularity holds up, , she might win.

The margin of victory of LeRoy Myers over Casper Taylor was actually 76 votes. This is my backyard, four miles down the road into Maryland.
I certainly, however, agree with the point of your post. Maryland voters put some fine people into office. Even now I am still thrilled that Ehrlich won over Townsend.
