President Donald Trump's military intervention in Venezuela has emerged as a flash point in the closely watched Republican primary campaign between Kentucky U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, a long-running Trump antagonist, and retired Navy SEAL officer Ed Gallrein, who has the president's backing.
Massie, showing his non-interventionist leanings, fired off a series of social media posts criticizing the dramatic action that captured Nicolás Maduro and removed him from the South American country.
“Wake up MAGA,” Massie wrote. “VENEZUELA is not about drugs; it’s about OIL and REGIME CHANGE. This is not what we voted for.”
Gallrein responded that Massie had “shown his true colors” by criticizing the military operation, and said the congressman's stance “is not what the people of this district expect from a Republican.”
Gallrein says he was part of the military operation decades ago that toppled another Latin American strongman: Panama’s Manuel Noriega. He is Trump's choice to challenge Massie, a maverick who has had an up-and-down relationship with Trump.
The primary election in May will test Trump’s hold over Republican politics. The sudden emergence of Venezuela as an issue will test the president's ability to hold together his coalition during a challenging election year for Republicans that could be defined by domestic concerns like health care and affordability.

It’s about both, dumbass.
There it is. Massie is a "maverick".
The MSM tries to rescue one of their paid minions.
Maverick? Sure
A somewhat ambiguous sentence. Noriega is President Trump’s choice to challenge Massie? Is Noriega still around? Well, couldn’t be worse than Massie, I suppose.
“it’s about OIL“
Well how about this dumb ass. If it is about oil that’s fine by me. Having abundant energy is crucial to freedom and prosperity. Massie is treasonous scumbag.
Dumbassie it is
And even if the oil is a major reason, I'm OK with that. America built and developed Venezuela's entire oil extraction and refining industry starting about 100 years ago, and we had long-standing contracts with them about how the revenues would be divided which Hugo Chavez illegally abrogated. Getting American oil companies back in there is actually righting a historical wrong and fully justified.
National Emergency in Venezuela was started under Obama, Masshole in his heart Massie.
It might actually get solved under Trump 45-47.
Amazing
LOL
I hope Massie runs in ‘28. Not necessarily because he’s likely to win but because he would make the primary more interesting. We’d finally have someone willing to talk about this insane deficit and spending problem we have.
As it is it seems the GOP is determined to push Vance through no matter what. Kind of like how the Dems pushed Kamala through without a primary. Anyway I don’t trust Vance. He’s a total dupe of big tech and it’s guaranteed he will bring all sorts of Orwellian surveillance stuff in. Younger conservatives don’t trust him either.
That’s what they used to call McCain.
There is a plan to not having Republican primaries in 2028? First time I hear it.
It’s ridiculous to compare JD Vance strong position among Republicans with Democrats anointing Kemala Harris. For one thing, the election is still in 3 years, not 3 months. Second, JD Vance is in this position because polls say so, not because of backroom deal to make sure a black/Indian/Latina woman would replace Biden.
Erika Kirk already anointed him at the last TPUSA event. That was my clue the fix was in.
