Ben Sasse Becomes ‘GOP Trump Critic’ Ahead of 2020 Elections
Breitbart - Politics ^ | 8-9-2020 | Sean Moran

Posted on 08/10/2020 5:34:19 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

Axios reported on Sunday that Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) has become a “GOP Trump critic” ahead of the 2020 elections.

Sasse, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Finance Committees, released a statement after President Donald Trump issued executive orders granting Americans a payroll tax holiday and unemployment insurance after negotiations with leading Democrats fell through.

Referring to Trump’s executive orders as “unconstitutional slop,” Sasse said in a statement on Saturday:

The pen-and-phone theory of executive lawmaking is unconstitutional slop. President Obama did not have the power to unilaterally rewrite immigration law with DACA, and President Trump does not have the power to unilaterally rewrite the payroll tax law. Under the Constitution, that power belongs to the American people acting through their members of Congress.
Axios’ Mike Allen wrote that some Republicans, including Sasse, believe that the president will likely lose reelection in November and therefore are creating space between them and the president.

Sasse also criticized the president for clearing out protesters in Lafayette Park by the White House.

“I’m against clearing out a peaceful protest for a photo op that treats the Word of God as a political prop,” he said in June.

Sasse sharply rebuked the president over reports that the Russian government issued bounties to Talian-linked militias to attack American troops in Afghanistan.

He said, “Number one, who knew what when? Did the commander in chief know and, if not, how the hell not? What is going on in our process?”

The Nebraska Republican also attacked Trump’s plan to withdraw troops from Germany, saying, “Chairman Xi and Vladimir Putin are reckless — and this withdrawal will only embolden them.”

From Axios link, (excerpt) Flashback ... Sasse in his maiden Senate speech in 2015: "Everything cannot be simply Republicans versus Democrats. ... I promise you that I plan to speak up when the next president of my party exceeds his or her proper powers."(end excerpt)

I still think Willard Romney the one big thorn, now I guess Sasse wants to join his rank, after Sasse's successful primary win in May. Criticize Trump on his EOs is fine, but together with those other things he did, well, he's wishy-washy to say the least.

(From wiki page)

Born in Plainview, Nebraska, Sasse earned a doctorate in American history from Yale University. He taught at the University of Texas and served as an assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.[2]

I am from Nebraska and I hate Ben Sasse. Mainly because he continually outs himself as and Anti Trumper.

Nebraskans are stupid. Bob Kerry, Chuck Hagel, Ben Nelson who was the deciding vote to push Obama Care forward, and now Ben Sasse were all elected by my fellow residents.

Every one said one thing at election time and continually did the opposite in Washington and they just keep electing them

Mitch needs to slap this wimp down. And the rest of the GOP Senate should call him and insist he shut the heck up. Typical loser GOPers.

Ben Sasse is a boil on the butt of the GOP. Amazing that he kept his mouth shut until his primary was secured. Phony POS.

All these RINO chumps think they should be POTUS...

Sasse just enjoys being a contrarian...it’s his persona...

For Willard, this is all a personal vendetta for being called a bad name on the playground...

Plus, Willard may have his snout in the public trough that could put him at risk...

Anyone who knows the facts of the things he criticized, knows that he’s a total liar.

Troops going to Poland close to Russia.

Were no Russian bounties.

Didn’t attack peaceful protesters they injured more than 80 secret service agents.

But Sasse is scum.

Flakey is even more offensive than Sasse, he had the gall to write "Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle." (2017) before his next ambition (a possible run for potus).

What is wrong with AZ?

Trump didn’t get involved in Primaries. Now he has to live with the fools. I wish the Dems would be able to work with Trump then there’d be a legitimate option to get rid of these fools.

“President Obama did not have the power to unilaterally rewrite immigration law with DACA...”

The Supreme Court says he did.

Therefore, that power accrues to Trump.

Sasse needs a severe attitude adjustment. Is there a money trail, business deal, fondness for something illicit? Find it.

Actually, he is correct in his opinion. We would howl if a Democrat did this. However, it’s an astute political move, and puts the Dems in a position of arguing against helping people.

President Obama did not have the power to unilaterally rewrite immigration law with DACA

The Supreme Court says otherwise. While I disagree with the SCOTUS, we might as well push things a little so the hypocrisy is evident and things correct themselves.

The GOP is a predominantly globalist, a party with a very few nationalists sprinkled in for looks. So few nationalists, 1 President, maybe 3 Senators and 30 or so Representatives. That's about it for the nationalist wing of the GOP.

It always surprises me how well they do every election despite being so anti worker .

Compromised. Corrupt. The only question is how? Ties to Burisma? Or some other crookedness?

No excuse for this crap in light of what's at stake in this election. None. This guy is ending his political career.

Read others’ comments re: SCOTUS on DACA.

All we know is “Some EOs are okay according to SCOTUS, but not others” and there’s no standard(s) that SCOTUS adhere to.

".... unconstitutional slop...."

Sasse is not a GOP Senator. He's in bed with the democRATS. He's on their daily talking points memo list. He reminds me of Jeff "The Flake" Flake.

Nancy Pelosi used the exact same wording to describe Trump's Executive Order.

These guys can't hide under the GOP skirt any longer.
