Bernstein: White House Talking About Throwing The Election To The House To Hold On To Power
RCP video ^ | 8/4/2020 | Ian Schwartz

Carl Bernstein warned President Trump may throw the election to the House of Representatives to decide in an attempt to hold onto office on CNN Monday night.

"We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness," Bernstein demanded.

"Everything is about the base, as he calls it, and getting the base to somehow re-elect him or get him close enough to reelection that he can then put into authoritarian practice, some kind of mechanism that will allow him to hold on to power, perhaps throw the election into the House of Representatives, which indeed is being talked about in the White House," Bernstein said.

(snip)

CARL BERNSTEIN: I think we have to recognize that we have a national emergency unlike anything in our history. That national emergency is that we have a president of the United States who is demonstrably unfit, incompetent, not honest, and not capable of dealing with this horrible situation.

We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness. People are dead because of his recklessness.

We need the political system to respond, which means Republicans particularly, because the Republicans on Capitol Hill as well as those who left the White House, they know he is not a stable individual. They have told dozens of people, they believe the president of the United States is out of control, that he is not fit to be the president of the United States.

We need to be protected from this president so that we can be protected from COVID. ...

Its a different set of rules. Each state’s delegation votes. California only gets one vote. Their representatives get together and (presumably) vote for Biden. But it’s just one vote. Trump would win at least 26 votes (out of 50) in this scenario.

If a presidential election goes to the House of Representatives, each state gets one vote in the election of a president. The congressmen do not vote as individuals, they vote collectively as members of their state delegations and each state gets one vote.

While the House is in Democrat hands, are a majority of House state delegations controlled by Democrats? Will that be true as a result of this November’s elections? That’s what we need to know.

According to “Google”, 26 out of 50 House delegations are majority Republican, while 22 are majority Democrat. Two states are evenly divided. That’s the important number if this election goes to the House, not that the Democrats may still control the House overall. Since they vote by state, we would need to know whether a majority of states delegations are controlled by each party after the Nov. 2020 elections.

“Carl Bernstein warned President Trump may throw the election to the House of Representatives to decide in an attempt to hold onto office on CNN Monday night.”

Carl is delusional.

* If Trump doesn’t win, the R’s will certainly not take back the house. So Trump still loses.

* R’s only take back the House if Trump wins decisively, in which case he doesn’t need the House.

The inevitable conclusion is: Why would Trump let Nancy Pelosi select the next president?

This only makes sense if you are deliberately spreading really stupid ideas or if you have terminal TDS.

In 2016, Republicans took the House. In 2018, Republican turnout was low, and the Dems took the House.

I don’t see any scenario which has us NOT taking the House if Trump wins.

“We need a political and cultural protector in this country between now and Election Day from the president of the United States and his recklessness. People are dead because of his recklessness.”

And there you have it. The reason why the left glommed on to a cootie, less harmful than the flu. They are opportunists, and this worked for them.

It’s all out demented tantrums and hate hate hate. What a sad piece of work some people have become. I will never have “the golden years” like previous generations. Mine is being torn apart by elite power mad mentally ill politicians and college aged pampered do nothings who riot and destroy as a way of life. My disgust grows daily.

Is Bernstein anticipating that Kanye West will get one or more electoral votes so that no candidate gets a majority?

A more likely scenario: electoral votes will be disputed in several states. The Congress will not be able to agree on the count.

More later.

This piece of garbage collaborated with the Wapo and CIA agent Bob Woodward to take down a GOP president. He has told whoppers ever since. He is always wrong and nobody cares.

Since this is all nonsense, I think it's important to make something clear.

The State Legislatures elect the President and Vice President, indirectly, through the appointment of Electors. This is an absolutely necessary function, without which we could not have a new President, or keep the old one, since the end of his term is fixed by the Constitution.

People voting, constitutionally speaking, are not part of this system. All 50 of the State Legislatures have chosen, for whatever reason, to adopt the "idiots voting" method of appointing their Electors, but this is not a requirement, can be dispensed with at any gtime, and almost had to happen in Florida in the year 2000 (and would have but for the foolish decision by the USSC to hear the non-justiceable Bush v. Gore case).

So, whatever happens with the "Presidential election" in November, a President will be elected on December 15 by the Electoral College and will be sworn in at Noon on January 20,2021.

Columinst David Catron at The Spectator puts forward the provision that if states can not reconcile vote results by the “safe harbor” of 35 days after election they risk disallowed EV votes, which is the why the FL Supremes stopped the vote count when they did. In this 2020 case, D states are the ones at risk with mail-in voting.

I’m not sure how this provision affects this potential for the house to determine the Pres....as suggested by liberal Laurence Tribe and Bernstein.

As for this benefitting DjT; completely wacked since Ds control the house.

The House is controlled by Democrats, but if a presidential election goes to the House, each state gets one vote; the members of Congress do not vote as individuals.

As of now, 26 House delegations are majority Republican, while 22 are majority Democrat.

I can not believe that anyone would believe these lies or pay for them.

This is desperation and just flat making up stories and lies.

Trump is just doing what he does best, he misdirects the idiots on the left and then he wins. He wins a lot.
