Democrats came under fire for staging a political stunt Monday aimed as an apparent act of solidarity with black Americans and demonstrators protesting the death of George Floyd.
Just before they introduced a sweeping criminal justice legislation Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), joined by over a dozen other Democrats, knelt in silence for 8:46 minutes, the same length of time former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held Floyd’s neck pressed to the ground with his knee during the fateful May 25 arrest.
Democrats were also wearing scarfs made from a Ghanaian textile known as kente.
The moment quickly went viral, but it received mixed reactions as some members of the African American community described it as unnecessary and “disingenuous.”

Kente cloth is from the Ashanti tribe, the second largest slave brokers on the Gold Coast. They decimated the population of what is now known as Senegal.
So white elitists wearing kente cloth are identifying with, and kneeling to, African slavers.

I don’t think that stunt was very well thought out. Kneeling down on a marble floor for almost 9 minutes is no small feat for anyone let alone a bunch of geriatric, arthritic out of shape couch potatoes. Nancy couldn’t get back up without assistance and fats Nadler didn’t even try, he knew his limitations.
