Britain’s E.U. divorce "Brexit" is official. How did we get here?
LaCorte News ^ | 1/31/2020 | John Moody

Posted on 01/31/2020 12:25:25 PM PST by Zenyatta

After more than three years of shock, hyperbole, bitter recrimination, political tomfoolery and, most of all, uncertainty, Britain is leaving the European Union today.

Now a reality, Brexit feels like nothing so much as the final scene of the classic movie, “The Graduate,” where, after Katherine Ross jilts her fiance at the altar and flees with Dustin Hoffman, the two lovebirds hop on a bus, look around, and are utterly baffled about what to do next.

You know that of the EU passes or changes a law the UK must abide by it for at least till the end of 2020 right?

How much did the UK END up paying to leave? To lazy to look up the terms.

Since they don’t even have the terms is it real? They could walk back almost everything?

Despite his leader claiming he had got Brexit 'done' and had reached the 'finish line', newly-knighted Duncan-Smith said what happens next will be 'difficult'.

He told talkRADIO: "It's not just about making trade deals. This next phase is in many senses going to be the most difficult phase of all."

He is the latest politician to wake up to the reality that now we are in a transition period the UK's influence at the EU will dwindle.

"In this period we are subject to European law but we have no vote.

“You know that if the EU passes or changes a law the UK must abide by it for at least till the end of 2020 right?”

That’s the agreement but after today if the EU passes a law that conflicts with UK law then the UK courts will speak for the UK and not the Eurotrash court.

It’s nice you think so but signed agreements are signed agreements.

Music has the power to reduce these complex issues to the basic essence ;-)

In November we will have a sequel to 2016’s greatest hit, but it will be around 80 million F***offs.

Its nice that you think so, but the UK being the one to decide how or whether agreements are enforced or not is the UK deciding how or whether agreements are enforced.

It's nice that you think so MrEdd, but don't just take it from me, newly-knighted Duncan-Smith states clearly:
"In this period we are subject to European law but we have no vote.

Ben and Elaine “utterly baffled about what to do next”? That’s not how I remember the scene. He seemed extremely pleased to have pulled off the impossible, and she appeared overwhelmingly happy to be out of the clutches of her family. Long lives and a fabulous story to tell their children and grandchildren awaited. One of the classic albeit rare “happy endings” in 1960’s movies. The UK (England, at least) seems pretty upbeat about giving Brussels a shove off the pier too.

And what is going to happen if the EU passes a law the Brits don’t like and the Brits tell them to stuff it? Is the EU army going to invade?

Yes you can but at the end of that day Britain is out of the EU, their interests come first and Brussels is a paper tiger.

Not at the end of this day and other days remain to be seen.

Excuse me if I am not so Jazzed as you are...

I thought after May lost the first vote that March would be True Brexit.... didn’t happen,
In fact BoJo then voted for May’s deal.

Then I was Jazzed for Halloween, for again undisputed Real Brexit....
Again it didn’t happen.

All I posted here is that UK is still in fact subject to EU law,
Sorry I peed in the punch bowel.

Forget the facts I posted and enjoy the day.

Dream on. At least you can take comfort in the fact that thousands of expats share your dream. Thousands of Democrats still dream of impeaching Trump. Beto O’ Rourke still dreams of being President, yadda yadda...
