Democrats are organizing in Michigan earlier than ever to stop President Donald Trump from taking the state again in 2020.
Michigan Democratic Party Chairwoman Lavora Barnes said the goal is to build a stronger, more permanent political machine to hit the ground running when the party chooses its presidential nominee. The organizing effort is based on lessons learned from Hillary Clintons surprise loss in 2016.
Weve not had, frankly, the wherewithal to do this before, Barnes said. We also have always tried to do some off-year organizing, but this large scale is unprecedented. Its really about not taking any voters for granted or any part of the state for granted, recognizing that we have to get out there and make our case all over.
The Democratic National Committee dispatched field organizers to Michigan and built a program to train 45 students from Michigan universities as part of its pre-2020 strategy. Democrats other independent organizations also built a war room communications team to highlight the presidents broken promises to Michigan voters.
Democrats launched an eight-week student training program, known as Organizing Corps 2020, in Michigan and six other battleground states this summer. The program creates a pipeline for college juniors and seniors to enter full-time paid campaign jobs working to register voters and inform residents of recent changes to Michigan voting procedures.

Good lord, this is the same stuff we heard in 2016.
Leave it to some people on FR and you would think the Dems could not lose a single election ever.
I perdicted Trump taking MI and many thought I was nuts, as well as him winning. I also predicted Scott Brown had a chance for the Kennedy Seat when everyone thought I was nuts. For a rank amateur I am not to bad at this stuff. But after what happened here with the Dem sweep in MI in 2018, I am worried about PDJT’s chances here in MI, that’s all....
I see dead people voting.
He only won Michigan by 12,000 voters. The Democrats can easily make that up with fraud in one single precinct in Detroit.
I don’t see any way the Democrats will allow Trump to win Michigan again. In 2016 he caught them off guard and they were not able to steal it.
But I thank God that Trump won and kept us from finding out for sure.
What these leftist wishful thinkers forget is millions of working stiffs of all races all across the country have been watching POTUS fight for American workers and jobs. When auto manufacturers say they are going to close a plant or move it to Mexico, POTUS has called them out.
Democrats can talk all they want. The President has proved himself to Michigan voters by his actions. Watch him carry Michigan by a much larger margin.
There was some hinky BS going on.
My suspicion is that they were "harvesting" in the smaller counties, somehow related to the 2016 voting information requests that were issued to all the county registrars before the election.
The big counties couldn't respond in a timely manner, and they experienced a neutral or declining Democrat vote.
There were astonishing Democrat "surges" in the smaller counties, which WERE able to respond before the election.
The Dems pulled some hinky BS in Michigan in 2018.
Naturally, the red jersey Michigan "Republican" Uniparty Front Holes in Michigan didn't call them out on it.
“Ex-offensive line-(uh)person?”
Possibly a nose guard.
Middle linebacker at least. Does have the Mike Singletary look.
This is not a good report at all. However, I also know that Trump people have signed up more volunteers than in 2016 in MI.
The biggest hurdle there is that plant closings and then openings have been off and on. First Ford is in, then they are out. That doesn’t help. However, if Trump can carry Macomb, he’ll win, because other than Detroit & maybe the downtown precincts of some of the other smaller cities, all of MI is red.
You are right to make these points. Michigan is not even close to being a lock. Im a precinct delegate in Oakland county and we are slowly losing our once firm grip in this county. We just lost a good county executive, who in my opinion, should have stepped down a couple years ago to pave the way for new leadership. May he Rest In Peace.
Ok. Watched it. I live very near Atlanta. It’s a bit larger than our town.
I knew about Macomb -JJ was very popular there too.
So now what?
Will the redistrict thing matter?
Guns.
