When it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, Humboldt County donors clear favorite picks for president are Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.
Since January, 64 Bernie Sanders supporters donated a collective $28,081.14 to his campaign through the Bernie 2020 and Friends of Bernie Sanders committees, according to data made available by the Federal Election Commission. During the same time, 42 Trump supporters donated $38,196.74 to the presidents campaign for reelection through the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, Donald J. Trump For President Inc., Trump Victory Committee and The Committee to Defend the President.
The largest single contribution was $10,000 to the Trump Victory Committee.
The campaign contribution limit for each individual is $2,800, but super PACs a type of political action committee unaffiliated with a campaign can collect and spend unlimited amounts of money for candidates, though they are not supposed to directly coordinate their fundraising efforts.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) was a distant third, receiving $5,790.02 from 16 locals, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) who received $4,896.75 from 14 area residents. Eleven county residents donated $3,8787.05 to West Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
