President Donald Trump is looking to woo black voters — if he can make them forget about his tweets.
The Trump 2020 campaign has been quietly reaching out to prominent African Americans about joining its latest coalition, intended to boost Republican support in the black community. The effort comes just as the president capped off a month filled with racially divisive language and Twitter taunts aimed at House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings and four freshman congresswomen of color.
Critics may find the timing of the outreach outrageous. But the campaign hopes that if it can shave off just a few points off Democrats’ overwhelming support among blacks, it can boost voter turnout in eight or so key states such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — each of which Trump won by less than one percentage point.
The campaign’s pitch to African Americans is simple: Ignore the president’s words and instead focus on his policies, like the state of the economy and the low unemployment rate, the passage of criminal justice reform or the creation of Opportunity Zones, which are meant to bolster investment in underserved or poorer cities.

Absolutely correct. The knee jerk anti-Trump syndrome is losing its punch. Trump’s tweets do more to bring his concerns to public notice than any oval office announcement. The press does not cover the president. He is forced to do that himself. What better way to make them cover him than to firing salvos that they can criticize? Press criticism of Trump tweets has the singular effect of broadcasting issues he wants to address. He does more with 150 characters than most people do with entire books or major campaigns.
I am starting to come think that the welfare state IS working for what want blacks want out of life. They get to have the “life style” without having to “act white”. OTH Some blacks who want to to actually try to make something of themselves they get “affirmative action” pushing them up. I think this social mess is what many want. All of this chaos didn’t happen by accident, maybe it was planned.

If he beaks 10% in 2020—and I assume an additional 5% minimum will stay home—-the impact on DemoKKKrats will be devastating.
In 2016, the black vote in FL, NC, and PA was off 2012 levels by 3%. This alone almost swung FL for Trump. Now increase that by 2% and add 2-3% more voting for Trump . . . Huge.
