McConnell: Blocking Garland was "most consequential thing I've ever done"
Axios ^ | January 22, 2019 | Khorri Atkinson

Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who blocked former President Obama's Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland from ever having a hearing in 2016, told the New York Times Magazine that his "decision not to fill the [Justice Antonin] Scalia vacancy" was the "most consequential thing I've ever done."

The big picture: McConnell cited "a longstanding tradition of not filling vacancies on the Supreme Court in the middle of a presidential election year" in his refusal to even meet with Garland after the death of Scalia — a tradition deemed "false" and "entirely a matter of circumstance" by Politifact. Since Trump's election, McConnell has led the effort to reshape the ideological makeup of the federal judiciary, successfully confirming 2 Supreme Court justices and at least 84 lower-court judges...

I’ve been watching the Turtle for decades. It’s the ONLY thing he’s done.

I dunno; he did pretty good with the Kavanaugh confirmation. It was close though due to the RINO's in the senate. Two of which are still there. Murkowski and Collins. The worst are gone though. Flake and Corker; especially Flake. He's the Mariana Trench of bad news leftism. Not deep; just low down.

I don’t care of he’s a NeverTrumper, the guy was AWESOME, and moved out at GREAT RISK, for us (i.e., Americans who didn’t want to lose the country) and for him.

We may not like some of his other stuff, but even there, I suspect that it is NOT HIM causing the problem.

Think about this, for example: Last year, when there were 51 Republican Senators, McConnell refused to change the rules to allow quick confirmation of Trump’s picks, particularly to the Courts (which now, I guess, run the country).

But was it really Mitch, or the herd of pigs he was trying to reign-in?

Answer: He now has 53 votes, and next week, according to news articles, this crap ends with a simple majority Senate vote.

And so, once Mitch got the votes, he ended the stalling. And no, my name isn’t Mrs. McConnell, nor any other Republican. Instead, I’m an OBSERVER, piecing together what I’m seeing.

If he was, then one might ask “cui bono?”

Just in time for pResident Obama to appoint a gun-grabber before the elections start to develop. After putting in the Wise Latina and the ObamaScare Cheerleader.

Well, it’s very possible that it’s coincidence.

Or...

Why is he speaking of himself in the past tense?

Sounds like he's getting ready to betray President Trump on the Wall.

In back room somewhere in congress McConnell is saying “most consequential thing I’ve ever done was block Donald Trump”.

This fool could have blocked Obamacare. Or at least put a serious dent in it.

He had absolutely no power to do that - the Democrats had 60 seats in the Senate when it went through on the first vote, and the second vote was on reconciliation when they had 59 seats after Scott Brown won in MA. There is literally nothing he could have done...the entire GOP caucus voted against it both times but had literally zero power to stop anything.
