Elizabeth Warren: Democrats can be ‘party of white working class and Black Lives Matter’

Kamala Harris attacked critics of “identity politics”. Elizabeth Warren insisted that Democrats could be both the “party of the white working class and the party of Black Lives Matter” while calling the American criminal justice system “racist”. And Cory Booker said it was time “to get folk woke”.

At the Netroots Nation conference in New Orleans on Friday, leading Democratic presidential hopefuls embraced the concept of intersectionality, viewing any conflict between economic populism and racial and social justice as a false choice.

“I have a problem with that phrase, ‘identity politics,’” said Kamala Harris, the junior Democratic senator from California, during a keynote address at the gathering of more 3,000 liberal activists. “Let’s be clear – when people say that, it’s a pejorative. That phrase is used to divide and used to distract. Its purpose is to minimize and marginalize issues that impact all of us. It’s used to try and shut us up.”

Her remarks rebuked the argument – advanced by many on the left – that economic issues should be emphasized over those of race or gender.

Harris, the daughter of an Indian-American mother and Jamaican-American father, faulted liberals for failing to elevate people of color, especially black women, who she said have “helped build the Democratic party and have been the backbone of the Democratic party”....

It’s always amusing to have a Dem tell you earnestly that theirs is the party of the working class, as if claiming it makes it so, and never mind the shellacking they took laboring under that happy illusion in ‘16. There were two overweening working class issues that election: stopping illegal immigration and cultivating jobs in this country, and Trump owned them both. And he still does - nothing in the Democrat platform listed in the story even addresses those issues other than complaining that they just haven’t found the right set of lies yet to offset Trump’s advantage.

Hey Lizzie Borden, the white working class abandoned the democRATS in 2016 and went for Trump's populism. They're considered deplorables now. And they are being rewarded with more jobs and lower taxes.

So the leaders of Black Lives Matter will somehow gain an understanding of what it is to work for a living?

So the white working class should get along with people who work towards their impoverishment and marginalization or worse? The white working class is moving away from the Democrats because they are finally waking up and the Democrats are panicking.

Democrats are suddenly realizing that their constant race baiting is costing them too many white votes. More blacks are starting to break the Democrats’ iron grip as well partly because they sense new possibilities for a better life, partly because they see the old Liberal ideas are killing so many of their children and partly because maybe some of them are starting to let go of their own prejudices.
