Rand Paul breaks with Republicans as he doubts Trump supreme court pick
MSN News ^ | July 15, 2018 | Edward Helmore, The Manchester Guardian

Breaking with many Republican colleagues, the Kentucky senator Rand Paul has revealed his concern over Donald Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to replace Anthony Kennedy on the supreme court.

Paul told Fox and Friends on Sunday he was worried Kavanaugh, a judge on the DC circuit court of appeals, could cancel out supreme court justice Neil Gorsuch’s vote on fourth-amendment cases and allow the federal government to collect the phone records of millions of Americans.

Kavanaugh’s confirmation rests on a knife edge. Republicans hold a 51-49 advantage in the Senate. They need a simple majority or a tie broken by Vice-President Mike Pence to confirm Kavanaugh as Trump’s second supreme court pic, after Gorsuch....

It’s just Rand being Rand.

Sort of like Manny (Ramirez) being Manny in baseball. In other words, acting like an asshole is their natural state of being.

So a man with The Guardian newspaper in Manchester, England, wants everyone to know about Rand Paul’s objection one more time. Rand Paul would probably get along better in the U.K. than Kentucky, and some Democrats will be voting in favor of Kavanaugh again anyway. Rand Paul is expectedly to the left of some Democrats.

Once again, let me postulate that President Trump is actually advancing a SCOTUS justice that he *expects* to lose before the senate. Maybe even with a select group of senators to shoot him down if he looks like he might pass.

1) He puts up a less than ideal candidate.

2) He imagines the incredible outrage among Republicans just before the election if he is shot down.

3) The Republicans pick up a strong majority in the senate, enough so jerks like McCain, Collins, Paul, et al., can no longer hold legislation hostage with just a few votes.

4) After the election he can nominate a hardcore conservative with an almost guaranteed pass.

Of course this is wild speculation, and Hail Mary politics.

BOTH of the Pauls are the R version of
Lucy, Charlie Brown & the football.

BOTH of the Pauls are sad that J McCain already had been tagged ‘Maverick’

Both Pauls are basically in the N Pelosi/C Schumer mode - NEVER stand between ANY of them and a microphone or TV camera.

It is time that Rand Paul grows up and joins reality.

His father was a nut but I expected more of Junior.

His mother should have been Aynn Rand and his father RuPaul. He wouldn’t have been so screwed up in the head with that pair.

Well, let’s call “Rand” by his real name, “Brutus”, because he is a backstabbing SOB.

“Et tu Brute’”

“He may be right. I worry about this guy but he is our man. Beats hillary guy.”

I’d also like to be contrarian here; his positions are often misguided but the tent should be big enough for them.

No matter what the US state supposedly captures on its own citizens, the UK is never going to stop doing it. And they will be glad to exchange their captured calls for our captured calls of all UK citizens in any case.

As I’ve said before, my late father’s job at the telephone company was tapping phones at the frame as part of a dedicated team that did nothing else, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Half the people here weren’t born then.

Awesome, hopefully the cow and Collins vote no also, that way a few red state sens have to vote yes. If they don’t and lose their seats then great!. Trump gets his pick regardless, he can just renominate Kavanaugh again in Jan. or pick someone they
hate more. Killing a nomi we does not stop a sc justice replacement.

If the red state sens vote no the. Trump goes bazerk on then and make them lose if they vote yes the kavanaugh gets in. If all the republicans vote yes then the red state dems can get away with voting yes because their vote will not matter. Schumer will be a strung up by his bass if some of his members put Kavanaugh over the top, which is why some Rs have to vote no.

It was probably too late to do anything about this state of affairs 50+ years ago. This is probably why new aliens are not visiting us every day, no one ever gets off their planet because their sentient brains didn’t develop with the technology they invariably create.

16 Jul: Daily Mail: Mystery as IDENTICAL letters appear in 21 newspapers across 12 states slamming Trump’s Supreme Court pick – and they’re all signed by different people
By David Martosko
It warns that he could be a swing-vote on the high court ‘that takes away our rights’ and awards new levels of political influence to ‘mega-donors with extreme agendas.’

Three of the newspapers contacted Friday by DailyMail.com later removed the letters from their websites. Two, the Morning News and the Union Democrat of Sonora, California, publicly explained why.
In an email Saturday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah shrugged off the practice as inconsequential and amateurish...
