President Trump hasn't just rewritten the political rule book; he has also redrawn the political map. While plenty like to complain about how the polls got the 2016 election wrong, they got it wrong in only one region of the country: along the Rust Belt and into the Upper Midwest. And that's where Trump pulled out his narrow victory.
We and plenty of others have been somewhat consumed with how that shift came about and whether it represents a fundamental realignment in American politics. But I still don't think people realize how big a shift it was or where exactly it occurred.
Luckily, a new map put together by The Washington Post's graphics team shows it better than just about anything we've seen to date.
Inside Dan Balz's big, must-read piece on the Midwest's relationship with Trump is a map that shows the last time each Trump county voted Republican in a presidential race. As you'll see, there is a massive cluster of counties around the upper Mississippi River that hadn't gone Republican since the 1990s or even the 1980s. Across the rest of the country, such counties are very few and far between....

Clearly, the maps could change, Mark Levin was griping, rightfully, how Virginia and North Carolina were once reliable Republican states. It’s really taken someone like Trump for us to regroup.
I think what the GOP had completely lost sight of, was that the GOP voters are for AMERICA.
Not China. Not Mexico.
The entire GOP was so busy selling out America, so busy being for illegal immigration, and no borders. So much for sending American industries (one after the other, after the next, for an entire generation) overseas, that they completely lost sight of who was voting for them.
Trump gets it.
Now, thus far he hasn’t done anything to turn that around. But he’s focused on it, bigtime.
If he stays on the subject. If he turns around American trade, brings a lot of it back to America. Then he will rescue the GOP. For real.
If however Trump is just making sounds and doesn’t really intend to bring back US businesses to America.
Then it is over. The GOP, Trump, and America.
But I think Trump is for the USA. Trump alone. Gets it.
The comments @ the article are priceless ... so many of them just don’t get it.
I can see riots taking place if they don’t win back the House this fall.
“””I think what the GOP had completely lost sight of, was that the GOP voters are for AMERICA.”””
They’re lawyers who never have to go to court and they get rich doing it.
Paging LS!
The GOP is very eager to get the DNC back into power.
Is the midwest the next south for the democratic party?

Riots?
They'll be necklacing at the DNC.
I live in that midwestern blob and travelled the area quite a bit in the weeks leading up to the election, and you saw nothing but Trump signs. Lots of democrats saw the light.
It amazes me that Democrat voters have yet to figure out that the Democrats don’t give a rat’s ass about them. Democrats are all about POWER! And if that means sacrificing loyal Democrat voters, they will sure as Hell do it.
I visited relatives in Wisconsin the week before the election. The state was covered with Trump signs.
The comments are priceless. These idiots actually believe the Russians aided Trump; Trump hates women and Republicans are active in “voter supression”.
Never ONCE did any of these idiots think that their Party SCREWED OVER BERNIE, and that Trump won by attracting votes that the Democrat Party has ALWAYS taken for granted.
Dumbasses. And I hope they get there smug asses kicked in 2020 too.
MY favorite map was one I saw here on FR after the 2016 election. It showed all of the Counties in the US and was colored blue or red.
Trump won 98.2%
Clinton won 1.8%
And I’d wager a big chunk of Hillery’s 1.8% was stolen.
We’ve got to win big this fall in the mid-terms. I’m volunteering to help GOTV. Hope we all do that.
That would be fun!
The guy is CLUELESS. At this point Americans dont care about Trumps style. Americans see results. They see a man who gets things done. It is so obvious that it is impossible for the media to lie and manipulate effectively. The media is so discredited that Americans realize there is always an agenda in their reporting and can see right through it.
