Will President Trump face a challenge from within his own party in 2020?
Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake (R) seems to think so. On Sunday, Flake told ABCs This Week that if the president did not change his approach, he is going to leave a huge swath of voters looking for someone else.
Flake, a frequent Trump critic, added that the president is probably inviting a Republican challenge. Any challenger to Trump would face enormous hurdles.
The president remains popular among Republican voters, even as he endures historically low approval numbers at large. In most polls, around 80 percent of GOP voters give Trump the thumbs-up.
Still, Trump would become much more vulnerable if Republicans suffered major losses in the midterm elections set for November 2018.
And its easy to see why some of his most strident GOP critics might think its worthwhile to run against him, even if victory is a long-odds bet.
But who is most likely to do it?

Not a chance. This is fake news.
IMO Cruz is the only one who could draw measurable votes. But he could not defeat Trump. I am hoping that Cruz has the good sense and the patriotism to SUPPORT Trump, not challenge him. (I was a Cruz supporter in the primary, but 100% happy that Trump is in the WH.)
When your side is winning, you don’t screw it up by internal fighting and self-destruction. Anyone who challenges Trump for 2020 is obviously not on our side.
You forgot LBJ who won the 1964 election. He had been in the U. S. Senate for a long time prior to running as VP with Kennedy. He was the Senate majority leader for years. Johnson was certainly a criminal.
“I dont think Ted Cruz will ever be president.”
Ted went after President Trump on NAFTA. I think Ted wanted to retain NAFTA.
Here’s my thoughts... LOL.!
A lot of people look at Trump and think, gee, if he can be president, I can.
Most of these people are delusional. And any politician who tries to primary Trump will be damaged goods and will see his career ended.
I’m a Cruz guy, but there is no chance Cruz runs against Trump this time out. He and Trump are too much in agreement on the issues, to this day I’m disappointed they weren’t able to run as a team. Only if Trump is unable to run for some reason would Cruz run. And then he’ll have to consider Pence, who theoretically will have a leg up.
As for the others on the list, they aren’t worth the time of day. I would be happy if I never hear of any of them again in public office.
Why is the media paying any attention to a delusional loser? They are just as flaky as Flake.
Sorry bucko ... Cruz is a US citizen because his mother is a US citizen. And yes I know his daddy was Cuban and yes I know Cruz was born in Canada.
My thoughts are that Trump will not run in 2020 and will fully support Pence for the Repub nomination.
None of them are going to run...
I am pretty sure I’ve heard Trump mentioned his 8 years.....
Flake is killing himself with his anti-Trump ramblings. He thinks he is stabilising a NeverTrump base but by primary time that “base” will be a handful of delusional RINO’s meeting in a coat closet.
Ben Sasse, hasn’t he been complimenting President Trump? I don’t think he’ll take on the Trumpkrieg.
Ted Cruz shot himself in both feet last go round. When a gracious Candidate Trump gave him speaking time at the convention the best he could come up with was a “vote your conscience” speech.
I was a Cruz supporter but that left a very bad taste in my mouth.
While Martinez does check the Chicano/Hispanic box and the Lady Parts box she ain’t got the name recognition to take on President Trump.
Best she can hope for is to set herself up for 2024 or a Senate seat.
John Kasich is out of his pea picking mind.
Mr Irrelevance himself.
Look up deluded in the dictionary and it has a picture of The Mailmans Son.
To paraphrase a great graphic, which I don’t know how to post:
I would rather shove a wet noodle up a wildcats ass in a phone booth than listen to another speech by The Mailmans Son.
Flake lives up to his name...He is a RINO
Kasich is too willing to keep taxing workers to support illegals & non-workers. He has no fire in his belly, & no brains to run a country. IF he dropped dead in a remote cabin & wasn’t found for a month, the state of Ohio would run itself. He isn’t running it.
I don’t think Martinez has near enough experience...
Nor Sasse
Cruz might find himself better off in a Congress which has had a thorough housecleaning.
If the GOP has a surplus of anything, it’s total losers who think that hey are God’s gift to everything and everyone.
None of these skidmarks are ever going to do a damned thing.
Corker cooked his own goose when he UNDER-REPORTED his income for over 10 years & got caught early this year.
No matter how low anyone in the USA is on the income totem pole, NO ONE will stand for a tax cheat—especially one of over 10 years running.
I wouldn’t let Corker monitor my horse water tanks in the summer.
Kasich is a union buster and will never be welcome in the Democratic Party. And nobody runs for VP anyway.
Bring it on! Trump could use some sparring partners to help get him into fighting shape for the general election against Kamala Harris.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more hilarious, this POS comes up with the most ‘head-shaking’ statement made in 2017...completely out of touch and truly delusional...
