Democrats and many people in media mocked the GOP for having 17 candidates in the 2016 Republican primary. Now that the Clintons are out of the way however, Democrats are expected to have a massive field of candidates in 2020.
Amie Parnes writes at The Hill:
How Dem insiders rank the 2020 contenders
Democrats predict that as many as 30 candidates will compete in their partys presidential primary in 2020.
And while its still too early to say who might come out on top, buzz is building around some potential candidates, even as other hopefuls fade to the background.
A year after a devastating 2016 defeat, Democrats are craving new faces with fresh ideas. Yet many of their leading contenders for the White House in 2020 are politicians who have been around for decades.
Theres also no clear standout in the potential field.
You have a bunch of Celine Dions but theres no Beatles, said Phil Singer, a Democratic strategist who served as press secretary on Hillary Clintons 2008 presidential run.
The fortunes of potential candidates can change quickly. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), for example, was regarded just a few weeks ago as a potential dark horse candidate in 2020, but that changed instantly when sexual misconduct charges surfaced against him.
Parnes singles out six names that came up when Democratic insiders were asked about the race.
Bernie Sanders Joe Biden Elizabeth Warren Kamala Harris Sherrod Brown Deval Patrick
The problem the Democrats face is that the only people with national name recognition will be senior citizens by the time the election rolls around.
Former DNC chair Donna Brazile agrees on the question of quantity.
David Rutz of the Washington Free Beacon:
Brazile Predicts at Least 25 People Will Seek Democratic Presidential Nomination in 2020
Former Democratic National Committee interim chair Donna Brazile predicted a massive field of 2020 presidential candidates on Tuesday, telling MSNBCs Chris Matthews she foresees 25 potential Democratic contenders.
Matthews asked Brazile about possible candidates like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and Joe Biden, who are 76 and 75, respectively, and wondered if there should be an outer age where youre just too old to run for presidents.
Chris, I predict tonight that there will be literally over 25 people who will consider running for president, she said. Perhaps Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders.
Other rumored contenders include Sens. Cory Booker (D., N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.), Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), Kamala Harris (D., Calif.), Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

” I also like the congresswoman from Hawaii.”
Tulsi Gabbard.
It does look like she is being groomed for a big future in politics. If she had any minority blood in her; she would be a shoe-in.
The dems feel robbed they didn't get a woman President. It didn't matter their "woman" was an evil criminal and mastermind of a corrupt foundation along with her equally corrupt ex-Prez husband.
I detest that about dems. Kamala Harris would be even worse than obama for America. Fauxahauntus is so far left; she wouldn't be much better. God help America if either of them are ever elected to higher office.
Who do you look at in the Dems and say, thats the one that good give us a real run for our money?
The obvious one is Kamala Harris. But it seems like she is not ready for prime time. That leaves Deval Patrick as the only Mini Kenyan on the national stage.
A bit deeper down the Dem bench is Tulsi Gabbard. I’m not sure if she is progressive enough to get through the Dem primaries though.
I want Joe Biden to get the nod. Then Democrats can be the party of Evil Clowns.
Don’t bet it on it.
A lot of things we consider crimes and major character flaws, Democrats consider resume enhancers.
I am not certain that Hillary will be, physically, in any shape to run for the presidency.
But heck, that just puts her in a new ‘victim’ category, doesn’t it?
1. America sucks.
2. Trump and his voters are dumb racists.
3. Tax everyone except for me.
Weiner/Holder 2020
And the irony is, bad as the elderly Dems are, the younger ones are even more rabid and nuts....
That would be the next Republican after Donald Trump. Granted, Trump is one of a kind, but if the Repubs go back to Jeb Bush type candidates in 2024, any empty suit or pantsuit can win for the Dems. Problem is, who is the next Trump?
The media would make Kamela Harris (mixed-race, woman, Cristian-hater, socialist activist) a saint and hero.
Right. The media won’t put up with a doddering old white fool, however much a commie he is.
Bernie will take another payoff (maybe a woman this time, as he has enough houses) and the Left will be off on a race/class/sex/anti-religious war.
The RATs have such a crappy bench that probably tbeir strongest possible 2016 presidential nominee would have been an 80-year-old white dude (Jerry Brown).
You’d have given Moonbeam a better chance that Biden?
Absolutely. Brown is a much more serious guy, and he could point to “achievements” as governor of our largest state. Biden is the weird uncle whom you wouldn’t let alone with your daughters.
He’s actually on a 2020 list I recently saw. WA post. It went
15) Mark Zuckerberg
LOL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYZAnn6gPak
14) Eric Garcetti
The commentary is skeptical of a lowly Mayor so I don’t why he’s on the list then
13) Tim Kaine
Captain Charisma
14) Deval Patrick
Dime Store Obama
11) Oprah Winfrey/Mark Cuban/Howard Schultz/Bob Iger/Sheryl Sandberg
Guy admits he’s a tool for putting 5 together. I could see idiots going for Oprah, sure. Cuban, no. The other 3 would warrant a “Who?”.
10) Sherrod Brown
Popular with progtards but boring as unbuttered toast. Hopefully Mandel takes him out
9) Cuomo
The dems answer to daddy issues Romney, may well run
8) Cory Booker
The far left hates over ties to the insurance industry or big pharma or something
7) Kamala Harris
6) Kirsten Gillibrand
Clearly interested.
5) Moonbeam
So high on the list, even though he’ll be 82.
4)Liz Warren
Bernie in Hillary’s body, yes please
3) Chris Murphy
I honestly don’t get his position on this list
2)Biden
1)Sanders
Commentary “it’s difficult to see why Democrats wouldn’t believe he deserved a chance at being the nominee after what happened in 2016. And he remains pretty broadly popular with the American people. “
It’s easy to see, actually. And he’ll be as popular as Kevin Spacey after months of negative ads. Gold mine in oppo research.
Yes, please run Yellow Teefs. Because America needs a megalomaniacal fascist Millennial dictator.
Not sad at all! It. Is. Glorious to behold!
