GOP bill will offer Dreamers citizenship after ‘extreme vetting’

Sen. Thom Tillis will introduce his “conservative Dream Act” on Monday that would provide a pathway to citizenship for as many as 2.5 million young undocumented immigrants, but one that is long and involves “extreme vetting.”

The North Carolina Republican and cosponsor James Lankford, an Oklahoma Republican, will pitch the plan as “merit-based” relief that must be earned — and, critically, not “amnesty,” according to Republican talking points obtained by McClatchy. But unlike other merit-based immigration proposals that limit new immigrants from entering the country based on their job skills, this proposal would limit who can remain in the country based on their years of American education, work experience or military service.

“Choosing between either mass deportation of Dreamers or blanket amnesty is a false choice,” the lawmakers argue, according to the talking points. “There is a third option: an organized process by which talented and hard-working young Americans can earn legal status.”(continued)

That, and they’re claiming it’s for about 2.5 million. But if the process ever starts there won’t be any provision to stop it when the numbers exceed 5 or 10 million. Open the door by a little and watch them flood in. No thanks.

Are sitting down boots? Because I have worse news.

We have imported 30 Million LEGAL immigrants in last 25 years. 90%+ of them are low skills, low education, low wealth people. They were sponsored by a relative who was already granted legal immigrant status (not US citizenship necessarily, because an legal immigrant of permanent resident visa, aka green card, can sponsor all his/her relatives for green cards)

So yes, 2.5 million sounds awful, but to me those 30 million sound even worse. Majority are receiving government assistance in one form or another.

Methinks the Senator will not be getting reelected.

There's a huge mark of arrogance here though: the GOP has been elected on two issues: (1) the repeal [not replacement] of ObamaCare, and (2) the securing of our borders.

If my father robbed a bank, especially if I knew of it, and he died leaving me the balance of the money would it not be confiscated and I arrested if the authorities learned of it ?

2.5 million + chain migration of parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grand parents, and anyone else they can claim a relationship with = 25.0 million will get amnesty.

Farewell to our once great and free Republic.

No. Dreamers (whether from Poland, Ireland, China, or Mexico) should be offered citizenship after returning to their home countries, applying for legal entry, being approved for legal entry, and then continuing to follow the existing legal process. That’s the point of the rule of law - criminals should not be rewarded for their crimes.

BS - the parents need to pay for their illegally obtained educations first. Minimum $10k per year for 12 years.

Not necessarily they lie because they want to. Once you understand they stay in power because of BIG contributions from ultra rich donors, and the rich donor class makes bigger profits with cheap labor, the fog will clear immediately, and you will understand why the politicians lie during campaign, and then vote differently in congress.
