Americans are not prepared to take big chunks out of their paychecks for socialized medicine, and theyre not keen to move far left.
Today is single-payer day. Bernie Sanders is introducing the Medicare for All Act of 2017, and this time hes no lone socialist crying in the progressive wilderness. A total of 15 Democratic senators are backing his bill, including most of the top Democratic contenders for the presidency. As the Washington Posts Aaron Blake observed yesterday, The dam is breaking. The New Republic, among others, is even arguing that single-payer is becoming the newest litmus test for the partys presidential hopefuls, and given the speed with which the far Left transforms fringe ideas into moral mandates, Im not surprised.
Sober-minded Democrats should be terrified. They just might be handing Trump two terms. There are three reasons why. First, and most obviously, single-payer health care comes with an extraordinary tax bill. The very instant voters saw their take-home pay plunge often by an amount that far exceeds their traditional employee contribution to their employer-provided insurance they would realize that free health care isnt free. For now, Sanders is concealing how hell pay for his bag of goodies, but any single-payer plan would be crushingly expensive. Heres the Washington Post editorial board, on June 18 this year, describing the costs.....

Wasn’t Trump a single payer guy since long before he ran for president?
I think Trump is on-track to win re-election.
If the GOP insists on dismantling our current healthcare system, and bringing back the mess we had, however, that could change.
Trump seems to have the right approach to this subject.
The GOP in general however, is completely sold out, in my opinion. Completely.
Mind you, just my opinion. I understand a (lot) of people here on this website, are not in agreement.
I’m on single-payer.
Don’t tell anybody but the Russians are the ones who got the Dems pushing for single-payer.
MAGA 2020!
At this point the mess we had looks better than the current poop storm.
“Could?” Will.............
I do not agree.
But then again, I understand there are a (lot) of posters on this website, including the site owner by the way, who agree with you. Strongly.
Which reminds me, I will shut up about this topic now.
:D
From where I sit. With special needs kids and a wife with type 1...
Life was much easier paying 450 a month and 1000 out of pocket for the family than the 5 figure deduct and damn near triple a month premium.
Happy to endure Obama’s Total Crap Care for another 3 years if it helps to get Trump a second term. Compared to what I was paying pre-ACA, that would be my vicarious campaign contribution worth no less than $20k.
You didn’t know how expensive health insurance was until Obamacare made it “free”.
The Democrats love to creep slowly, slowly, slowly to the left.
What is their destination?
Death panels perfectly balanced by race and sexual orientation determining who lives or dies.
Slowly, slowly, slowly...hoping nobody will notice....
The only way to make “health care” efficient and attainable by all is for the government to get the hellth out of it altogether, out of medicine, out of medical schools, out of insurance, and give it entirely to the market..
The Republicans in Congress are partaking of the copious corruption available with government controlled medicine. Government control must be and always is accompanied by corruption. When you have to depend on a government clerk for anything, that clerk can manipulate things in your favor but he won’t do it for free.
You are correct. Unfortunately, it won’t be exposed until each state tries their own methods. CA, for example, will go single payer and become bankrupt, while others will go free-market and thrive.
Not sure why these is coming as a surprise to anyone. All part of the original Obamacare plan. Single payer is just Obamacare on a double dose of steroids!
Was he???????
Which state has tested “single-payer”?
The answer is none. But Vermont went full Obamacare and had just one insurer, California and Colorado talked about it but all three discovered it took the ENTIRE state budget to pay for government-payer healthcare. So you either DOUBLE state taxes or the only thing states pay for is medical care. No roads, bridges, libraries, state patrol, nothing.
trebb-Was he???????
It might be possible to find a past statement where Mr. Trump indicated support for single payer. He was not politician, and superficially, single payer is attractive.
However, Mr. Trump is a businessman and he can also do math. Single payer simply cannot work, both Vermont and California had real efforts to pass single payer for their states last year. They both foundered on the fact that the required money does not exist.
