Republican Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner rejected Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel’s call for a bill of rights for immigrants Wednesday, claiming that only Congress could pass such a law.
Emmanuel called for the bill of rights after declaring Chicago a “Trump-free zone” Tuesday in response to President Donald Trump’s announcement that he was ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Chicago Tribune reported. While Rauner denied Emmanuel’s request, the governor was not opposed to further protections for illegal immigrants. Instead, he called on Congress to take action.
“I do not believe this challenge for these children can be addressed on a state-by-state basis,” Rauner said. “I think that would not be correct, would not be the right solution. We need a comprehensive immigration reform. It should be done on the federal level for the entire nation, and it should be done by Congress.”
Rauner signed legislation to make Illinois a “sanctuary state” last week, preventing law enforcement from arresting illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status. But after the Trump administration’s DACA repeal announcement, Emmanuel wasn’t satisfied.
The mayor filed a resolution with the Chicago City Council Wednesday, calling on Rauner to adopt a bill of rights for “Dreamers.” He made the announcement at Solorio Academy High School, where more than one third of the students are illegal immigrants.
“Chicago, our schools, our neighborhoods, our city, as it relates to what President Trump said, will be a Trump-free zone. You have nothing to worry about,” Emanuel said while visiting the high school. “And I want you to know this, and I want your families to know this. And rest assured, I want you to come to school … and pursue your dreams.”
What the heck are they talking about? the bill of rights largely applies to everyone inside our borders, legal or illegal.

How many of those High School illegals are in their 20s, which is the average age of the "Dreamers"? And how many of those illegals are guilty of crimes, which is what would put them in jeopardy of deportation? What a crock.

But he throws a fit when President Trump threatens to cut Chicago off from all of that dirty, dirty Trumpian federal aid.
Hey Rahm, being your Guv just signed a bill making Illinois a sanctuary state where are you going to get the money to replace cut off federal funding for educating these illegal aliens?

Have they not seen Hartford CT is 60 days from Bankruptcy? Kentucky's Legacy Cost got them valuable real estate over at Zero Hedge (as they head towards Bankruptcy too), and NJ has been on that Radar again, as has IL and CA via CALPERs?
Not that he'd give them a bailout, but ya think they'd be nice to PDJT, as they head to Chapter 11 as a City ( Chicago ) and State (IL ) rather then biting as his ankles like a little yapper?
It is time for Rahm to go back to his shine box, he is so out of his league....
Emanual is a POS. He is but one person and those who prop scum up like this as their hero are the real cause of the decline of America.

Rauner caved by signing the bill, but lost in the “spin doctoring” is that the legislation was revised to permit ICE to round up the bad hombres with proper paperwork. This was a classic Democratic “gotcha” bill designed to make the governor look bad if he signed it (angering Republicans) or vetoed it (allowing the Democrats to pander to Latinos).
Emanuel spent epic sums of money in both of his mayoral elections while recording some of the lowest vote totals of any winner in nearly a century (when five or more candidates were competing. He is dead if the Latinos dump on him.
That’ll work.
I think an Obama-free Chicago would be something to aspire to.

Emanuel has a huge security detail. Unbelievable, actually. It would take more than a Marshal to do it.
I thought it was 15 and older.
Trump should start a renovation of the White House that requires every one to keep out of the place until that renovation is complete. Announce this to the public and then announce he was temporarily taking up residence in Chicago.
Or would lefties call that too mean and insensitive?
