Patience folks, Trump is just getting warmed up
The Huntsville Times ^ | July 31, 2017 | John Robb

Whether you voted red or blue, clearly you can see that Team Trump had a rough launch. Failure (so far) to replace Obamacare, daily Russian probe distractions and West Wing infighting are three most notable examples. But, I believe all three are rooted in one simple and temporary cause: Donald Trump didn't expect to be elected President.

Please know my source here is not some anonymous bureaucrat or wishful-thinking Liberal pundit. Mr. Trump said that. Those who attended his final victory rally in December at Ladd Stadium might remember he told us that he rented a relatively small Manhattan ballroom election night because he was expecting to just deliver a short concession speech and go home. But, the voters had other plans.

That's why Republicans have stumbled so badly on Obamacare. They simply didn't have a fully vetted plan ready to replace it. Previously, it was easy for them to pass bills to repeal it. Everyone knew Mr. Obama would veto them. So they didn't have to get into the weeds to agree on a replacement.

The Russian probe never would have happened either if Trump's people really thought they'd win. Attorney General Jeff Sessions or the President's son-in-law Jared Kushner wouldn't have gotten caught near a bottle of Russian dressing if they thought any casual and innocent Russian contact would come back to haunt them like this.

A key reason for the current White House shakeup is that Trump only had a few weeks to cobble together his inner circle. Remember, Trump was out campaigning hard in those all-important swing states while Hillary was back home in Chappaqua fine-tuning her transition that was not to be.

Fortunately for us Republicans, all three issues will likely go away because time is on our side. We have well over a year before the midterm elections to repeal and replace Obamacare. Why would anyone think legislation that affects all Americans' health care and one fifth of our national economy could pass easily? There are just too many moving parts for a quick fix.

The Russian probe is rapidly becoming moot because there is simply no real "collusion" to uncover. Sessions' and Kushner's recent and equally candid testimony clearly demonstrated that.

West Wing infighting has not only been routine for most administrations, we've had much worse from the start. Remember, our first Treasury Secretary, Alexander Hamilton, ended up on the wrong end of Aaron Burr's gun and Lincoln's rancorous "team of rivals" had their own civil war raging. New Chief of Staff, General John Kelly clearly has the right stuff to whip Trump's team into shape.

Donald Trump's election represents a radical departure from business as usual inside the D.C. beltway. That's precisely why the American people elected him president. Other key initiatives like simplifying our taxes, draining the bureaucratic swamp, improved border security and strengthening our military will also take years, not months. Remember, it took Mr. Obama eight years to run America into the ground. It will take at least one full term to get us back on track. For anyone to think this transition could be smooth or that major policy initiatives could be enacted quickly is simply naive.

It's equally naive to think that the President had a master plan ready to solve all of our nation's problems quickly. The man told us himself - right here in Mobile - that he didn't even expect to get the job to do it. As St. Teresa of Avila said: "patience achieves everything." That is equally true in the not so saintly halls of the White House.

“Get used to disappointment.”

We've got a solid Supreme Court Justice, and many good federal judge nominees. The border wall is in the works. The gay nonsense — federally mandated trans-bathrooms, etc; official legal special status for homosexuals that could close religious schools overnight if they won't hire men who are married to men and women who are married to women — has at least been stalled. We have a President who isn't cowing to the Muzzies the way most European leaders have surrendered their countries to Muzzy migrants.

General Kelly is military genius whose view of life has been tempered by the loss of his son, who died in battle. The first change he demanded was the firing of that scabrous clown, Mooch. I am not going to prepare to be disappointed; I am preparing to watch Trump MAGA.

Actually l already am. As much as anything else it’s the lack of ANY coherent offense against the coup. Way too much trying to ride it out while it spins out of control. He could have fired Mueller as soon as his conflicts became known. Now it feels like it’s too late. Why the hell can’t he at least fire Rosenstein the guy that gave Mueller no limits and a blank check?

Better the rattlesnake you are watching and have an idea how to end run around than kill that snake and get bitten by the one you replace it with.

It has only been six months. There were some bumps in the road on ObamaCare and Scaramucci. But there is progress being made. The key IMO is taxes. They need a success there this year.

Trump saved America from falling into the abyss. Hillary or another swamp creature would have kept obama’s policies of adding 97,000 pages of government regulations per year. That would destroy businesses, the economy and America in a few years guaranteed. And Hillary wanted to import the 3rd world including millions of Muslims into the USA.

Obama was adding 97,000 pages of government regulations per year against the United States. This was destroying America.

Trump saved America. Trump is reducing government regulations which has the stock market reaching new records every day, unemployment record low, jobs up, gas price down, manufacturing up, industrial production up, etc. Trump is MAGA !

So after Trump is gone the swamp creatures will go back to obama’s policy of adding 97,000 pages of government regulations per year which will destroy businesses, the economy and America in a short time. Or do you think America can whistand 97,000 pages of government regulations added per year?

America , freedom ,property rights etc. last as long as Trump is president , not much longer after that. You are cutting off your own head if you don't fight for Trump.

Thanks! I really am psyched. Hoping General Kelly can help Trump put things in order. I admire Jeff Sessions very much and believes he should be treated better than he has been lately. Would love to see him moved to head DHS, as has been rumored lately. Dare we hope Rudy Guiliani can be the new AG? We shall see...

Trump is massively reduced government regulations under the media radar. See my post number 10 here for links proving all this. Obama was adding 97,000 pages of government regulations which would have destroyed America in a few years if continued with Hillary etc.

BECAUSE of Trumps actions in reducing gov regs The economy is improving greatly . Trump unleashed at least 4 trillion in wealth in the stock market since getting inaugurated.

You have all these whiny complainers here on this thread and others(are they for real or uninformed ? or democrat bots?) . Trump gave up his billionaire life style to save America . And now Trump is the media's punching bag. They don't deserve to be saved but to stay in their mother's basement where they have been because of Obama’s terrible economy.

Trump gave up his billionaire lifestyle to save America (and I guess you complainers are American?) and to become the media's punching bag.

I wouldn't have givent up that lifestyle for anything much less a bunch of ungrateful media brainwashed bots. You complainers deserve what Hillary had planned for you which is seen now in Venezuela. I

I love Jeff Sessions too. He is a very good and honorable man.
I am not sure he is the type of man we need at AG.

We need an AG willing to go after all possible crimes, be it
GOP, or the RATs. Or all general lawbreakers.

I will wait until we get the new FBI Director in and see what happens then.

I don’t buy the entire premise of the article - that Trump didn’t expect to win, that he therefore had no plan ready, and as a result he’s off to a rocky start.

These all sound like recycled neverTrump talking points.

Trump has gotten tons done, and the turnover in his team is quite normal. The 100% obstruction by the Democrats and a few RINOs is unprecedented and has delayed his confirmations and legislative agenda, but that is their fault, not his.

Fake news.

Trump is just getting started. All “new” businesses, teams and organizations, etc., experience “white water turbulence” at their outset. Trump is getting his sea legs, and will deliver on his campaign promises, to “Make America Great Again”.

And.....many Democrats & their criminal cohorts will go to jail over the next eight years for being traitors, turncoats, and America haters!!!

I don’t buy the base premise of this article. Trump was in it to win it, he worked his butt off to make it happen. The extent and sheer venom of the opposition, both from within the Republican Party as well as from without, from the entrenched unelected bureaucracy as well as the Democrats (but I repeat myself), were not unexpected but the depth and tenacity of it weren’t anticipated.

So, I don’t fault the man for the seeming upheaval and disarray thus far, he didn’t have to sign on for this and he’s doing it out of love of country and his fellow citizens, of that I have no doubt. Where failures to get his agenda enacted do occur will not be from lack of trying, unlike the half-hearted and disingenuous Republican efforts of the past.

It would be helpful if the usual suspect peanut gallery would get on board with the obvious reality of the situation, but they’re still pulling a Mark Levin and come screeching out from under the floorboards whenever there’s some issue, problem or controversy, *itch, *itch, *itch, it’s seemingly all they know how to do. As if Ted Cruz wouldn’t have imploded before the election was even over. A Cruz nomination would have meant President Hillary Clinton.
