Not gonna happen.
Better duck, the lamebrains are gonna come after ya for saying “Cruz” again ;-)
Maybe they expect Bader-Ginsburg to retire.
So they decided to not fight over Gorsuch. Probably a sensible decision. They have to comfort themselves with something — maybe fight the next one...
I don’t know what’s going to happen with that or not, but I’ve dropped any and all beefs with Ted Cruz, because he has stood with President Trump publicly, and I appreciate that.
It would be nice, if the damned Dems pass on Gorsuch; however, we may need the nuclear option for him, RIGHT NOW and ever after! The damned Dems ain't gonna "play nice" on ANYTHING!
That seriously depends on the direction of the mid terms. If the dems lose more seats in the Senate, there wont be much they can do. If they win a couple of seats, then they will feel that they have “momentum” or something and that they can push a showdown and blame the Republicans.
Also factoring into this algebra is WHEN the next appointment becomes available. Before the mid-terms, then there is little that they can do other than try to “Bork” the nomination.
A distinct possibility is that there will be two additional openings if not in the next four years, within eight.
Cruz to loze.
Has anyone ever seen Allahpundit and Erick Erickson in the same room at the same time?
Nuke now. In fact, Trump needs to keep the Dims reeling with EOs so that they become even more exorcised and baited into filibuster. Michael Moore and his commie friends will push the Dim leadership into the extreme position. It’s better to strike hard and fast than to let things draw out.
Conservative SC nominees will have an easier ride later.
Fortune favors the bold. How many times have you read in history books where the general failed to exploit the victory and go for the rout.
I don’t think Ted wants to be on the high court. He’s got a different path mapped out for his future, which (in my view) is probably Senate Majority Leader, or possibly Governor somewhere.
I doubt there will be a big fight over the next nominee for the Supreme Court because that vacancy will not occur during this Congress. It will occur after the beginning of the next Congress after the Democrats have lost at least nine seats in the Senate. They will not be able to filibuster nor will they be able to block the next two vacancies which will occur in rapid succession in early 2019 when the Notorious RBG and Steven Breyer both pass from the scene.
“Republican senators such as Lisa Murkowski or Susan Collins are responsive to this cost if vocal constituents lay it squarely before them.”
LOL. He meant “if their masters in the Teachers Union pull their strings.”
Ted has said he doesn’t want it.
He is too valuable in the Senate. As someone suggested, he ought to be in Ditch’s spot.
President Trump has a list of 21. Most of them are good choices. He doesn’t need to go off the list.
If Ted were appointed to the Supreme Court, the senator you’d get to replace him wouldn’t be as good.
23 Dems, 2 indies and 8 Republican seats are up in 2018.
The math is improbable, as in: not even possible for Dems to make a gain.
At least 10 of those seats a very much in jeopardy.
You are going to lose bigly and then the census favors the Republicans in 2020.
Trump for 8 years and with a Republican majority.
If you force the nuclear option just once, that becomes the standard for the next 8 years.
We will get 4 more bites of the apple on SCOTUS, ensuring wins on almost any issue for the next 16 years of elections and 100 years in the courts.
Dems need to tread carefully here, otherwise riots will ensue. /S
Moses can not lead you out of the desert.
Since the senate rules are created by the senate, this past week has shown that any of them can be changed. The filibuster or any rule is only as safe as the issue under consideration and the importance of it to those in power.
This appointment won’t swing the court.. Scalia was about as conservative a jurist as you could get, appointing another conservative for his seat won’t change the balance... Whoever dies/retires next however very likely will...
Dems will put up political theater resistance, this time, but the real fight will be when a Ginsburg or Breyer or even a Kennedy, who while considered conservative has sided with the liberal wing of the court at times in the past as well.
They will go absolutely ape $hit when Trump nominates a seriously conservative, constructionalist to replace any of them
Sadly, we are stuck putting up with the wholly unqualified and activist Sotomayor, and only slightly more qualified and less activist Kagan for a long time yet.
I approve! Whether or not there is any truth behind this, Senator Cruz makes a great bogeyman. If the Ctrl-Left is willing to step aside on the Gorsuch nomination to have more leverage for stopping a possible nominee, that’s a big win for President Trump and for America.
Collins and Murkowski didn’t get Cold Feet....they got Cold CASH from the Teacher;s Unions!! WHORES....Political Whores.
The argument should be as to why you have to nominate another liberal to replace a liberal.
Forget Cruz, that would just change the focus to an individual.
I prefer to focus on appointing a person who respects the original intent of the Constitution
