Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has threatened to stonewall Donald Trumps pick to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, telling MSNBCs Rachel Maddow, Schumer said: Its hard for me to imagine a nominee that Donald Trump would choose that would get Republican support that we could support. When Maddow asked, You will do your best to hold the seat open? Schumer replied, Absolutely.
The fact is, Senate Democrats are powerless to stop Trump from appointing and confirming a rock-ribbed conservative to replace Scalia.
Here is what Trump should tell Schumer in so uncertain terms:
As you know, I have put out a list of 21 judges from which I will choose my nominee to fill Justice Scalias seat. One of those judges will be my nominee. And that nominee will be confirmed by the United States Senate.
I sincerely hope that he or she will be confirmed with bipartisan support.
But if you are under the impression, as you suggested in a recent interview, that you can block my nominee and hold the seat open, I have news for you: That is not going to happen....

If the buffoons in the Senate can agree to Kagen and Sotomayor, I can’t see how any of them could have a problem with anyone President Trump nominates.
They should be powerless to stop any cabinet nominees too, but here we with fewer of Trump’s confirmed than Obama’s at this point.
Republicans, hello? Wake up! Your President & the American people are waiting......
This only works if McConnell is willing to change the rule. Trump can’t do it. And he has all but said he won’t do that. So as it stands the Dems CAN ABSOLUTLEY block a Supreme Court nomination with the filibuster.
Off the top of my head, since the executive and the senate are two different branches of Govt. I doubt any President can make up the Senate rules of how to approve Supreme Court appointees. -Tom
A filibuster can only go on for a finite amount of time. It is just a delaying tactic. Eventually, the have to vote.
Chucky will lose on that.
Don’t Nuke— Just go into Senate recess and do “recess appointment”. absolutely can== no doubt about it. The Socialist can’t do a thing and cannot over turn it. SCREW THEM!~!
A few tweets from Trump and that will get the Republicans in line. I doubt McConnell is the problem (his wife now works for Trump), but once the problem is identified (likely McCain, Rubio, and that bunch), they will soon be seeing at tweet storm.
It would be embarrassing to McConnell if Trump had to do recess appointments. Now, the turkey McConnell won’t go that low and prevent a recess?
I’d rather have a good recess appointment than another Souter.
Democrats have blocked trumps cabinet what makes us believe they can’t block court appointment.
Democrats are so used to being able to say something and have it be true. Nobody stood up to them before and now it’s showtime. Go Trump!
Candidates for the court probably wouldn’t want to give up their job for a recess appointment.
Republicans like Graham and Rubio roll over like puppies whereas Democrats dig in and fight. That’s the difference.
You will do your best to hold the seat open?
Hold it open?!?!? What? FOR EIGHT YEARS???? And hope you’ll get another rat in there by then?!?!
LoL. What a maroon!!
Recess appointments are only good for a year and are non-renewable, IIRC.
IF they make them do an actual filibuster instead of folding to the threat of a filibuster like Republicans usually do.
sure. It’s absolutely PERMANENT!! For life. Quit messing with these commie freaks and GET IT ON!
Keep praying everyone that President Trump is seeking God’s nominee. We all need to remember just Who is in charge of everything; and to select someone (male or female)based on their ability to be wise in the ways of the Lord should be the first and foremost qualification for that position.
Yes, I agree
